Warriors Finish Home Stand with 3-2 Win over Cal State East Bay

TURLOCK, Calif.---   Kayla Perez recorded her first brace as a Stan State Warrior to key the hosts' 3-2 victory over the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers.  Perez scored her first goal in the 23rd minute.  Three minutes into the second half, Perez scored her second goal.  The Warriors' third goal came with 13 minutes left in the match when Alexis Brewah connected on a through ball from Aliah Avila.  
 
FIRST HALF:  Seven minutes into the match, Aliah Avila's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Pioneers' Jordan Smith.  Cal State East Bay (3-3-2, 0-2 CCAA) had its first chance for the lead in the 21st minute when Malia Allen stopped Gabby Rodil's shot on goal attempt.  The hosts took the 1-0 lead when Kayla Perez scored off a penalty kick miss by Alexis Brewah in the 23rd minute.  The Pioneers had two chances to tie the match in the 29th minute when Allen made two saves off the shot attempts by Kelsey Pena and Maya Farkas.  Stan State had three chances to double its lead, but Smith stopped Marivic Lek-Miro two shot on goal attempts and an Alexi Ochoa in the 42nd minutes to keep the match at a 1-0 Warrior lead heading into the half.
 
SECOND HALF:  Stan State (4-4-1, 1-1 CCAA) doubled its lead five minutes into the half when Kayla Perez recorded the brace off her missed shot attempt.  The Pioneers' Kylie Newman had a chance to cut into the hosts' lead in the 52nd minute when Malia Allen recorded another save.  The Warriors had a chance to increase their lead to 3-0 but Jordan Smith stopped Aliah Avila's attempt in the 56th minute.  CSUEB cut the Warrior lead in half when Mika Sayfurahman connected on a penalty kick for the Pioneers in the 59th minute.  The match remained 2-1 Warriors until the 77th minute as Alexis Brewah scored her fourth goal of the season on a through ball by Avila.  The guests made it interesting as they scored with less than two minutes left from about 30 yards out on an unassisted goal by Sarah Redfield on a free kick. The Pioneers had a chance in the minutes, but they couldn't convert on the corner kick as Stan State took the 3-2 victory. 
 
BRACE:  Kayla Perez recorded her first collegiate brace this afternoon.  Her first goal came in the 23rd minute off a miss penalty kick attempt by Alexis Brewah.  Her second goal came in the 48th minute on unassisted goal. These were her second and third goals of the season.
 
GAME-WINNER:  Alexis Brewah scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 77th minute on a through ball by Aliah Avila.  Brewah has scored four goals and recorded four assists this season.  With the assist on Brewah's
 goal, Avila recorded her first assist as a Warrior.
 
UP NEXT:  The Warriors will commence on a three-match road trip with pair of CCAA matches in Southern California.  They will face Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, October 6 at 12:30pm in San Bernardino, Calif.  Stan State will travel to Pomona, Calif., for a 11:30am starting match at Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, October 8.  The Warriors will finish off the three-match road trip on Thursday, October 12 at 3pm in Arcata, Calif., for a 12:30pm match with No. 21 Cal Poly Humboldt.  They will return home on Sunday, October 15 at 11:3am for a match with Sonoma State.
