SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Stan State started its three-match road trip with a 2-2 draw at Cal State San Bernardino this afternoon at CSUSB's Premier Field.
Haylee Heffner's third goal of the season tied the match for the Warriors in the 61
st minute.
Alexis Brewah connected on a pass from
Makeila Yancey in just the second minute for the match's first goal for the guests.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (4-4-2, 1-1-1 CCAA) scored the match's first goal in just the second minute as
Alexis Brewah scored her team leading fifth goal off a pass from
Makeila Yancey to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead. The Warriors didn't hold onto that the lead for long as in the 11
th minute the Yotes tied the match at 1-1 when Lucumi Losada connected on a ball from Kaylen Gonzalez. The hosts had a chance for the 2-1 lead, when
Natalia Ochoa stopped Rebecca Cruz's shot in the 16
th minute. Stan State had a chance to retake the lead as
Marivic Lek-Miro's shot on goal was stopped by the Yotes' Leila Peregrina. The Yotes took the 2-1 lead on a goal by Alyssa Rubio in the 25
th minute. CSUSB looked like it was going to double its lead in the final minutes of the half when Yvette Ochoa's shot on goal was stopped by Ochoa to send the match into the half with CSUSB leading 2-1.
SECOND HALF: Cal State San Bernardino (4-4-2, 1-1-1 CCAA) had several chances early in the second half to double its lead but
Natalia Ochoa made two three key saves. The match remained CSUSB 2-1 until the 61
stminute when
Haylee Heffner scored on a cross from
Marivic Lek-Miro to tie the match at 2-2 for Stan State.
Zoie Willson had a chance to give the Warriors back the lead in the 75
th minute, but the Yotes' keeper snagged the attempt. With less than a minute to go in the match, Lek-Miro saw her chance to be the hero for the Warriors sail wide right of the goal to end the match in a 2-2 draw.
STATS: Natalia Ochoa had a season high 11 saves in goal for the visitors while Leila Peregrina had two saves in goal for the Yotes. CSUSB outshot the Warriors 16-7 including 13-4 in shot on goal attempts.
FIFTH AND FOURTH: Alexis Brewah scored her team leading fifth goal of the season. She also has four assists this season.
Haylee Heffner scored her third goal of the season today with
Makeila Yancey recording her second assist of the season.
UP NEXT: Stan State continues its three-match road trip in Pomona this Sunday, October 8 with a 11:30am match with Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos defeated Chico State 2-1 this evening in Pomona. The Warriors will end their three-match road trip on Thursday, October 12 in Arcata with a 12:30pm match with Cal Poly Humboldt.
