TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State recorded its third sweep of the season this evening at The Fitz with a three-set sweep of the visiting Chico State Wildcats (21-25, 15-25, 17-25). Four Warriors had at least five kills in
Isabella Saucedo (eight),
Ellison Weaver (eight),
Alex Byrd (seven),
Samaya Royal (six), and
Mariah Iosua (five) to lead the way for the hosts' offense.
FIRST SET: The beginning of the match was back and forth until Chico State (4-9, 1-8 CCAA) rallied for four straight points capped by a combined block by Cassidy Herbert and Brooklyn Anderson to take an 11-9 lead. The set was three times until the Warriors went on a five-point rally keyed by back-to-back service aces by
Rein Bocage to take a 21-17 lead. A Gwyneth Wentzel kill cut the Wildcat deficit to 23-20. Stan State took two of the set's final three points capped by a
Mariah Iosua kill off an assist by
Eyriana Eatmon to take the set, 25-21.
SECOND SET: Stan State (7-11, 2-7 CCAA) took a 5-1 lead as the hosts took five of the set's first six points by an
Ellison Weaver kill off a
Haley Burdo assist. An
Ellison Weaver service ace increased the Warrior lead to 13-5. Chico State cut the hosts' lead to 18-13 on a Brooke Ono kill. The Warriors took seven of the set's final eight points capped by an
Alex Byrd kill off an assist from
Eyriana Eatmon to take the set 25-14 and to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: Back-to-back kills by Lauryn Osendorf and Zoe DiNardo gave the visitors a 6-2 lead to begin the third set. Three consecutive kills from
Ellison Weaver and two by
Isabella Saucedo all off
Haley Burdo's assists as they tied the set at 10-10. The Warriors took five of the next seven points to take a 15-12 lead. Stan State increased its lead to 22-15 on a combined block by
Samaya Royal and
Makenna Carrillo. The hosts took three of the match's final five points capped by an
Isabella Saucedo off a Burdo assist to give them the 25-17 set three victory and the match 3-0.
WARRIOR LEADERS: Gabby Rawson had a match high 27 digs and three service aces to lead the Warriors.
Haley Burdo had 17 assists with
Eyriana Eatmon adding 15 assists for the victors.
Isabella Saucedo and
Ellison Weaver each had eight kills with
Alex Byrd recording seven,
Samaya Royal six and
Mariah Iosua five.
Makenna Carrillo had three total blocks with Royal, Byrd, and Iosua each recording two.
UP NEXT: Stan State will travel to Chico this Friday, October 13 for a 5pm match with the Wildcats of Chico State. The Warriors will return home the week of October 16 to begin a four-match home stand. The Warriors will host SF State (Friday, October 20, 5pm), No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino (Saturday, October 21, 5pm), Cal State San Marcos (Friday, October 27, 5pm, Dig Pink Match), and No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona (Saturday, October 28, 2pm).
