Warriors Finish Weekend with 3-1 Victory over Sonoma State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State (5-5-3, 2-2-2 CCAA) finished its weekend 1-0-1 after a 3-1 victory over the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves this afternoon at Warrior Stadium.  Alexis Brewah scored a goal and had an assist and Malia Allen had a season high 11 saves for the victors.  Arionna Imhoff scored the Warriors' first goal and Aliah Avilla assisted on their last goal.  
 
FIRST HALF:  The visitors looked like they were going to have a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Malia Allen made the first of her season high eleven saves on the day.  She made two more saves in the 15th minute stopping Jenna Dean's two shot on goal attempts.  The Warriors took the 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on Arionna Imhoff's second goal of the season off a pass from Alexis Brewah.  Imhoff had a chance for her second goal in the 23rd minute when Janese Claudia stopped the attempt.  The hosts doubled their lead on an own goal by Sonoma State in the 25th minute.  Aliah Avilla had a chance to make it 3-0 Warriors when Janese stopped her attempt in the 27th minute.  Sonoma State had a chance with three minutes left to cut into the Warrior lead when Allen stopped Kamryn Shigemoto's attempt to send the match into the half with the hosts leading 2-0. 
 
SECOND HALF:  Sonoma State (2-7-3, 0-5-1 CCAA) was going to cut into the Warrior lead twice int eh first three minutes of the second half when Malia Allen made two saves.  The guests cut Stan State's lead in half when Hailey Freeman scored on a corner kick in the 55th minute.  Alexis Brewah doubled the Warrior lead with her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Aliah Avilla in the 58th minute as Stan State took a 3-1 lead.  Zoie Willson and Brewah each had a chance in the 67th minute to increase the Warrior lead, but Janese made two of her seven saves on the day.  With 13 minutes left in the match, Haylee Heffner's shot on goal was stopped by Janese to keep the score 3-1 Warriors.  Allen made two more saves late in the match as the Warriors held on for the 3-1 victory.  
 
STATS:  Sonoma State out-shot the Warriors 22-13 including 13-10 in shot on goal attempts.  The Seawolves held a 7-4 corner kick advantage.  Malia Allen had 11 saves for Stan State and Claudia Janese had seven in goal for the guests.
 
BREWAH/ALLEN: Alexis Brewah had her team leading sixth goal of the season and team high fifth assist of the season.  She has a team leading 17 points and two game-winning goals.   Brewah is tenth on the Warriors' career list with 16 goals and 46 points.  Malia Allen had 21 saves to lead the Warriors to a 1-0-1 weekend.  Her 11 saves today tied her for second on the Warrior single game list and her ten on Thursday ties her for fifth.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will return to Southern California for a pair of matches against two CCAA schools in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  The Warriors will be in Carson for a 4:30pm match with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, October 20.  They will conclude their weekend with a 11:30am starting match at Cal State Los Angeles.  Stan State will return home for the final time the weekend of October 27-20.  The Warriors will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, October 27 at 4:30pm.  Their last home match of the regular season which will be Senior Day will be at 11:30am on Sunday, October 29 against San Francisco State.
