LOS ANGELES, Calif. ---- The visiting Stan State Warriors battled with the No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles (12-1, 7-1 CCAA) this afternoon at University Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif., but fell 3-2 to the hosts. The two goals were the most scored on the Golden Eagles since their 2-0 loss to No. 22 Cal State Los Angeles on October 1.
FIRST HALF: Tyler Tipton looked like he was going to score his team leading 12
th goal of the season, but it sailed high over the goal in the fourth minute. Thirty seconds later, the hosts took the 1-0 lead on a goal by Bryan Ortega off a pass from Simon Johansen. Stan State came right back and tied the match at 1-1 when
Julian Madrigal scored on a free kick from just outside the box in the 18
th minute. Cal State Los Angeles had a chance to retake the lead in the 24
th minute, but
Sebastian Castellanos stopped Tommaso Belli's shot on goal attempt. Three minutes later, Tipton had a chance to give the Warriors the lead, but Julian Aadlandsvik made the save for CSULA. The Golden Eagles took the lead in the 34
th minute on unassisted goal by Aidan Wait. The match went into the half with Cal State Los Angeles leading 2-1.
SECOND HALF: Just five minutes into the new half, the Warriors tied the match at 2-2 on
Edgar Castaneda's fourth goal of the season. Cal State Los Angeles took back the lead, 3-2, when Bryan Ortega scored his second goal of the match connecting on a missed shot by Aidan Wait in the 59
th minute. Stan State (3-9-3, 0-5-3 CCAA) had a chance to tie the match at 3-3 in the 67
th minute when Julian Aadlandsvik made his second save of the match on a shot by
Ryan Rosas.
Finn Hoffmann had a chance to tie match for the Warriors in the 85
th minute when his shot went right of the goal as the match ended with Cal State Los Angeles winning 3-2.
FIRST TIME IN : Julian Madrigal's goal against Cal State Los Angeles today was the first against the Golden Eagles in over 450 minutes a span of five and a half matches. The two goals that Stan State scored today are just the second time all season that the Golden Eagles have given up that many goals this season.
FIVE: Their one goal loss today was the fifth time this season that Stan State has lost by just one goal this season. Four times this season, the Warriors have lost by 3-2 scores to Azusa Pacific, to then No. 5 Chico State, Sonoma State, and No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns home for the final time this regular season this Friday and Sunday, October 27 and 29. The Warriors will host No. 22 Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday, October 27 at 7pm. Senior Day is set for this Sunday, October 29 at 2pm. Prior to the match at around 1:45pm. the Warriors will recognize their seniors in
