TURLOCK, Calif.--- The 21
st ranked Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (10-3-3, 6-2-1 CCAA) scored two goals in the final ten nine minutes to key their 3-1 victory over the hosts, Stan State, this evening at Warrior Stadium.
Tyler Tipton scored his team and conference leading 12
th goal of the season for the Warriors in the 13
th minute off a ball from Alecxander Cueller.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Monterey Bay had a chance for the early lead in the fourth minute when
Robby Rosas made one of his nine saves on the evening stopping Mason Ward's shot on goal attempt. Four minutes later, the Warriors had a chance for the lead when
Tyler Tipton's shot was stopped by the Otters' Jack Blickenstaff. In the 14
th minute, Tipton connected on a pass from Alecxander Cueller to give Stan State the 1-0 lead.
Sammy Villanueva had a chance to double the Warriors' lead in the 28
th minute when his shot went wide of the goal. With five minutes left in the half, the Otters tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by Kane Ritchie off a pass from Miguel Guerrero.
SECOND HALF: Stan State (3-10-3, 0-6-3 CCAA) was called for a penalty in the box, but
Robby Rosas stopped Janos Kommerling's penalty kick attempt to keep the score tied at 1-1 in the 59
th minute. The Otters took the 2-1 lead on a goal by Jose Madrigal off an assist from Janos Kommerling in the 82
nd minute. They doubled their lead in the 87
th minute on a goal by Kane Ritchie off a pass from Luis Escalante. Stan State had a chance to cut into the deficit int eh 89
th minute when
Kekoa Kiesling's shot went left of the net as CSUMB took the 3-1 victory.
STATS: Robby Rosas had nine saves for the Warriors while Jack Blickenstaff had one save for the Otters. CSUMB had a 5-3 corner kick advantage and a 23-11 shot advantage.
ONE AWAY: Tyler Tipton is one goal away from tying Victor Regalado (2009) record of 13 goals in a season. Tipton is now in second place on the Warrior' single season top list in goals. He is now fourth on the single season list with 24 points.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will host SF State this Sunday, October 29 at 2pm on Senior Day. The Gators lost 2-1 this evening at No. 5 Chico State. Prior to Sunday's match at around 1:45pm, the Warriors will recognize their seniors in
