Stan State to Host No. 22 Otters and Gators in Final Home Games

Senior Day Set for this Sunday, October 29 at 2pm

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State men's soccer team will have its final two home matches of the regular season this weekend when they host No. 22 Cal State Monterey Bay (Fri., Oct. 27 at 7pm) and San Francisco State (Sun., Oct. 29 at 2pm).  Prior to the match on Sunday, the Warriors will recognize their nine seniors in Sebastian Castellanos, Gerado Delgadillo, Finn Hoffmann, Julian Madrigal, Bradley Magnussen, Adam Mockridge, Nick Namwali, Cesar Ponce, and Robby Rosas in a brief ceremony. 
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stan State is 3-9-3 overall and 0-5-3 in the CCAA after going 0-1-1 this weekend in Southern California.  Tyler Tipton leads the team with his 11 goals and 22 points.  Edgar Castaneda is second on the team with his four goals, two assists, and ten points followed by Finn Hoffmann with two goals, two assists, and six points.  Tipton, Castaneda, and Hoffmann each have one of the Warriors' game-winning goals.  Tipton is five-for-five in penalty kick attempts.  Robby Rosas has a 2.00 goals against average with a .732 saves percentage, two shutouts, and 71 saves in 14 matches in goal.  Sebastian Castellanos has a .529 saves percentage with nine saves in three matches in goal.
 
LAST MATCHES: Stan State went 0-1-1 last week in its two matches on the road at Cal State Dominguez Hills and No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles.  The Warriors played a scoreless draw with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday in Carson.  Robby Rosas had five saves in goal for Stan State while recording his second shutout of the season.  Stan State lost 3-2 at No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday with Julian Madrigal and Edgar Castaneda each scoring unassisted goal for the Warriors.  The two goals were the most scored against Cal State Los Angeles since its 2-0 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay on Oct. 1.  This was also the first time that the Golden Eagles have given up a goal since Oct. 1, a span of four plus matches. 
 
FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACH:  John Powell'11 returned to his alma mater as the Warriors' head men's soccer coach when he was hired this Spring after spending the past two seasons on the sidelines at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. Powell guided the Nighthawks to a 15-4-3 record this season including an appearance in the NCAA Division II Super Region Four Final (Elite Eight).  He was the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year and guided the Nighthawks to their best season in program history.  They captured the GNAC regular season title and won three NCAA Division II Tournament matches, before losing 1-0 to the National Champion Runner-up, Colorado State-Pueblo.  He coached twelve All-GNAC honorees and four All-Region players during his two-years at NNU. In his four seasons coaching at Stan State and Northwest Nazarene with a 29-27-6 overall record. 


CCAA LEADERS:   Tyler Tipton and Robby Rosas are in the top ten in the CCAA in eight statistical categories.  Tipton leads the CCAA in goals (11), goals per game (.786), and is tied for first in points (22) and points per game (1.57).  Rosas leads the CCAA in saves per game (5.08) and is second in saves (71), eighth in saves percentage (.717), and tenth in goals against average (2.167). 
 
NATIONAL LEADERS:  In the latest NCAA Division II statistical report, Tyler Tipton and Robby Rosas are in the top 30 in five categories.  Tipton is fifth in shot accuracy (.706), tenth in goals (11), 21st in goals per game (.73), and 29thin points (22).  Rosas is ninth in saves with 71.  
 
TIPTON:  Tyler Tipton is tied for second on the Warriors' single season goals list with Daniel Kuczynski and Jose Ramirez with his 11 goals.  He is tied for fifth with his 22 points with Julian Madrigal.  
 
HONORS:  For his performance the week of September 18-24, Tyler Tipton was named the Pixellot/CCAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the week.  Tipton scored three of the five goals in Stan State's 1-1 week at home against Academy of Art and then No. 5 Chico State.  He started the week scoring two goals in the Warriors' 3-1 victory over Academy of Art.  The sophomore forward finished the week scoring a goal in Stan State's 3-2 loss to the nationally ranked Wildcats.  
 
NO. 22 CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY:  The Otters are 9-3-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCAA after going 1-1 last week at home.  They defeated Cal State San Bernardino 1-0 and lost to nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona 3-1.  Janos Kommerling leads the Otters with his six goals, three assists, and 15 points while Javier Romero and Alan Bedolla are next each with five goals, two assets, and 12 points.  Miguel Guerrero has 11 points on four goals and three assists.  Jack Blickenstaff has posted a 0.97 goals against average with 27 saves, .730 saves percentage, and four shutouts in eleven matches.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Otters 12-7-5.  Cal State Monterey Bay won last year in Seaside 1-0.  Stan State last defeated the Otters 2-1 in Turlock on Oct. 21, 2021.  Julian Madrigal assisted on one of the two Warrior goals.  Sebastian Castellanos had four saves in goal for the Warriors.      
 
SAN FRANCISCO STATE: The Gators are 3-8-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the CCAA after going 0-1-1 last week at home.  They lost 4-0 to nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona and tied Cal State San Bernardino 1-1.  Julio Gonzalez Ponce leads the team with his four goals, three assists, and 11 points followed by Emerson Trujillo with four goals, one assist, and nine points.  Fernando Escobedo Guzman has posted a 2.66 goals against average in nine matches with 23 saves and a .535 saves percentage.  Mario De La Torre has a 2.16 goals against average in eight matches with 35 saves and a .714 saves percentage.
