TURLOCK, Calif.--- Cal State San Marcos swept Stan State this evening (18-25, 22-25, 21-25) in a CCAA match at The Fitzpatrick Arena. The Warriors will host No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
FIRST SET: Cal State San Marcos (10-11, 8-5 CCAA) took a 11-6 lead to begin the first set. An
Ellison Weaver service ace cut the Warrior deficit to 14-13. The Cougars increased their lead to 20-15 on a combined block by Mackenzie Jennings and Alyssa Gurrola. The visitors finished the set off taking five of the final eight points to take the set 25-18.
SECOND SET: Stan State (8-14, 3-10 CCAA) scored five straight points to take an 11-9 lead in the second set. An
Ellison Weaver kill increased the Warrior lead to 15-10. The Cougars came right back and took eight of the next 14 points to take an 18-16 lead capped by an Isabelle Bakken service ace. A combined block by
Alex Byrd and
Haley Burdo gave Stan State a 21-20 lead. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the match after recording four of the next six points to take the set 25-22.
THIRD SET: The third set went back and forth until the Cougars took a 20-18 lead. The Warriors cut the lead to 20-19, on a kill by
Samaya Royal. A Trinity Barr kill gave the Cougars a 24-19 lead, but the Warriors cut the deficit to 24-21 capped by a
Haley Burdo service ace. The Cougars finished the set off and match off on another Barr kill, 25-21, and 3-0.
FOUR AWAY: With her 16 digs this evening,
Gabby Rawson has 996 in her career just four way from 1,000 digs in her career at Stan State.
LEADERS: Ellison Weaver had a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. She also had two service aces.
Haley Burdo had 21 assists while
Gabby Rawson added 16 digs.
Alex Byrd had four total blocks. Also with two aces besides Weaver was Rawson and Burdo.
UP NEXT: Stan State finishes off its four-match tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against Nol. 22 Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos defeated Chico State in three this evening in Chico, Calif.
