TURLOCK, Calif.---- Stan State libero
Gabby Rawson recorded 14 digs in the Warriors' three-set loss (19-25, 20-25, 23-25) to the No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos this afternoon in a conference match-up at The Fitz. With her 14 digs. Rawson became the sixth Warrior volleyball player in the program history to record 1,000 digs in her career.
FIRST SET: The first set was even until a Samantha Campion kill gave the visitors a 15-13 lead. They increased their lead to 24-18 on a combined block by Daisy Duke and Alexia Athans. A kill by Duke gave the Broncos the first set 25-19.
SECOND SET: Once again, the second set was even until a combined by block by Kaitlan Tucker and Samantha Campion gave Cal Poly Pomona a 12-9 lead. A kill by Madison Novak increased the Broncos' lead to 16-11. An
Emily Meyer kill cut the Warrior deficit to 16-13. Cal Poly Pomona (17-5, 10-4 CCAA) increased its lead to 20-14 on a Novak kill. Stan State cut the Bronco lead to 22-19 on a
Mariah Iosua kill. The Broncos took three of the set's final four points to take the set, 25-20, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: For the third straight set it went back and forth until Stan State (8-15, 3-11 CCAA) took a 16-13 lead on an
Ellison Weaver service ace. A
Mariah Iosua kill increased the hosts' lead to 19-15. The Broncos cut the Warrior lead to 22-21 on an Emily Payne kill. They scored four of the set's final five points capped by a Sarah Ybarra service ace to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
SIXTH ALL-TIME: With her 14 digs this afternoon,
Gabby Rawson is the sixth Warrior in the program's history to record 1,000 digs in her career. Rawson has 1,010 digs and is 15 away from moving past Sarah Crowl (2013-15) into fifth place on the top-ten career digs list at Stan State. Sarah Barnett (1999-2000) holds the Warrior career record with 1,499 digs.
LEADERS: Alex Byrd and
Mariah Iosua each had seven kills to lead the Warriors. Byrd added three total blocks to go with
Haley Burdo's 14 assists.
Gabby Rawson had 14 digs with
Ellison Weaver recording 12 digs to go with her two service aces.
UP NEXT: Stan State will be in Northern California for its final road trip of the regular season. The Warriors will be in Rohnert Park, Calif., for a 5pm starting match with Sonoma State on Thursday, November 2. They will conclude their trip with a 5pm match in Arcata, Calif., for a match with Cal Poly Humboldt.
