ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Stan State started its final road trip of the regular season with a three-set loss (22-25, 17-25, 22-25) to the Sonoma State Seawolves this evening at The Wolves Den in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Alex Byrd the way for the Warriors with seven kills and six total blocks.
Ellison Weaver added seven kills for the visitors.
FIRST SET: Sonoma State took an early 9-4 to start this evening's match. Stan State recorded the next four straight points capped by an
Alex Byrd kill to cut the deficit to 9-8. A Jaden Krist service ace increased the hosts' lead to 14-11. An
Emily Meyer kill cut the Seawolves' lead to 15-13. The Seawolves came right back and took a 19-14 lead. The Warriors scored six of the next eight points and once against cut the deficit to one (21-20) on a
Gabby Rawson service ace. Sonoma State finished the set off taking four of the final six points, 25-22.
SECOND SET: Sonoma State (15-7, 10-5 CCAA) started the second set on a roll taking a 12-1 lead. A Jen Trephan kill increased the visitors' lead to 16-5. The Warriors didn't go away as they scored the next five straight points capped by an
Ellison Weaver service ace, 16-10. A Brooklyn Jackson kill gave the Seawolves a 20-12 lead but back-to-back kills by
Samaya Royal and Weaver cut the Warrior deficit to 20-14. Sonoma increased its lead to eight (23-15) on a kill by Kiana Richardson. Stan State cut the hosts' lead to 23-17, but the Seawovles finished the set off taking the final two points, 25-17, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: Once again, the Seawolves took the early lead this time, 8-2 on a Jaden Krist kill. A solo
Alex Byrd cut the Seawolf lead to 8-7. Sonoma State came right back and took a 14-9 lead on a Brooklyn Jackson kill. Stan State (8-16, 3-12 CCAA) once again didn't crumble as the Warriors cut the deficit to 18-15 on a
Samaya Royal service ace. Sonoma took a 20-16 lead, but the Warriors scored the next two points on a kill by
Mariah Iosua and a combined block by Iosua and
Alex Byrd, 20-18. Two errors by Sonoma State made it 23-22, Sonoma State. The hosts finished the match and set off scoring the final two points to take the set, 25-22, and the match 3-0.
SEASON SERIES: With Sonoma State winning this evening in three, the two teams split the season series. Stan State won the match earlier this season in three sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) in Turlock.
STAT LEADERS FOR STAN STATE: Alex Byrd and
Ellison Weaver each had seven kills for Stan State with
Emily Meyer adding five. Byrd added a team high six total blocks while
Haley Burdo had 19 assists.
Gabby Rawson recorded 11 digs and
Rein Bocage had nine.
UP NEXT: Stan State will finish off its road trip this Saturday, November 4 at 5pm in Arcata, Calif., against Cal Poly Humboldt. The Lumberjacks are taking on Chico State this evening in Arcata. Stan State will return home for its final two matches of the regular season on November 10-11. The Warriors will host Cal State Los Angeles at 5pm on Friday, November 10 and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Senior Day on Saturday, November 11 at 2pm. Prior to the match on Saturday, Stan State will recognize its two seniors in
Eyriana Eatmon and
Samaya Royal.
