Warriors Play to a 2-2 Draw with CSUMB

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State played to its fifth draw of the season and fourth in CCAA play this evening in its 2-2 tie with Cal State Monterey Bay at Warrior Stadium.  Aliah Avilla scored the Warriors' first goal and assisted on the second one this evening.  Stan State will host SF State this Sunday, October 29 at 11:30 a.m. on Senior Day at Warrior Stadium.
 
FIRST HALF:  The hosts had a chance for the early lead in the sixth minute when Aliah Avilla saw her shot on goal attempt be stopped by the Otters' Aubrey McKinney.  In the 29th minute, the Warriors took the 1-0 lead when Avilla scored her second goal of the season on a ball from Alexis Brewah and Daisy Martinez.  Stan State (6-5-5, 3-2-4 CCAA) had two chances to double their lead by stopped by McKessy in the 39th and 41st minute one off the foot of Arionna Imhoff and the second off the foot of Marivic Lek-Miro to send the match into the half with the Warriors leading 1-0.
 
SECOND HALF:  Sunny Mancilla had a chance to double the hosts' lead in the 52nd minute but the Otters' keeper made one of her five saves on the evening.  Cal State Monterey Bay (3-7-5, 2-5-2 CCAA) tied the match at 1-1 when Amelia McManus connected on an assist from Tiger Rendon in the 64th minute.  The Warriors retook the lead, 2-1, when Shauna Johnston connected on a missed shot by Aliah Avilla in the 76th minute.  They hosts didn't hold onto the lead for long.  They were called for a foul in the box in the 79th minute and Rendon connected on the penalty kick to tie the match at 2-2.  Mancilla had a chance to give the Warriors back the lead late in the match but her shot went wide left as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
 
STATS:  Malia Allen had two saves in goal for the Warriors.  Aubrey McKessy had five in goal for the Otters.  Stan State out-shot the Otters 16-11 including 7-4 in shot on goals.  Each team had five corner kicks.
