HAYWARD, Calif.--- The Stan State Warriors continued their four-match road trip with a three-set loss (17-25, 24-25, 23-25) to the Cal State East Bay Pioneers this evening in Hayward. The Warriors will conclude their road trip tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. match with Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside. They will return home this Monday, October 9 for a 1 p.m. non-conference match-up with No. 18 Chaminade on Education Day at The Fitz.
FIRST SET: The first set was even until Cal State East Bay (7-7, 3-4 CCAA) scored seven straight points capped by a Lexi Pagani kill to take a 16-7 lead. An
Alex Byrd kill off an assist from
Haley Burdo cut the deficit to 21-15. The hosts recorded four of the set's final six points to take the set 25-17 on a kill by Alexandria Gloria.
SECOND SET: Stan State (6-9, 1-6 CCAA) took a 10-5 lead in the second set capped by a
Haley Burdo service ace. The Pioneers cut the Warrior lead to 11-10. The visitors came right back and scored five straight points capped by an
Autumn Kirby service ace. Once again, the Pioneers cut the Warrior lead to just one (19-18). Stan State took a 24-21 lead on a Pioneer hitting error, but the hosts took the final five points to take the set 26-24 and to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: An
Alex Byrd solo block gave the Warriors an early 5-2 lead in the third set. They increased their lead to 13-9 on combined block by
Alex Byrd and
Ellison Weaver. Cal State East Bay came right back and cut the Warrior lead to 15-13. The Pioneers took a 18-17 lead, but a kill by
Isabella Saucedo off an
Eyriana Eatmon assist tied the set at 18-18. The hosts recorded the next four points to take a 22-18 lead. The Warriors tied the set at 23-23 on a kill by Weaver off a pass from
Rein Bocage. CSUEB took the next two points to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
WARRIOR LEADERS: Ellison Weaver had 14 kills while
Alex Byrd had seven total blocks to lead Stan State.
Haley Burdo added 16 assists and
Gabby Rawson recorded 12 digs for the visitors.
UP NEXT: Stan State ends its four-match road trip tomorrow in Seaside for a 3pm match-up with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters defeated Chico State in five sets in Seaside this evening (15-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-11).
