TURLOCK, Calif.--- Playing before over 600 elementary school students from Crowell and Brown Elementary Schools, the Stan State Warriors fell in four sets (20-25, 25-19, 20-25, 17-25) to the visiting 18
thranked Chaminade Silverswords (17-2).
Isabella Saucedo had nine kills to lead the way for the Warriors while
Samaya Royal had eight and
Mariah Iosua and
Ellison Weaver each had seven for the hosts.
FIRST SET: The first set was even until the Silverswords took a 15-9 lead on a service ace by Greta Corti. Twice the Warriors cut deficit to four including on a
Mariah Iosua kill off an assist from
Eyriana Eatmon. Chaminade had a five-point rally as the guests increased their lead to 24-15. Stan State (6-11) didn't go away as the Warriors cut the deficit to 24-20. It was a little too late as a kill by Ajack Malual finished the set for the Silverswords, 25-20.
SECOND SET: The Warriors took an 8-3 lead in the second set capped by a
Samaya Royal kill. A kill by Greta Corti cut the hosts' lead to 10-9. A kill by
Ellison Weaver gave Stan State a 16-12 lead. Back-to-back kills by
Samaya Royal and
Mariah Iosua increased the Warriors' lead to 20-15. A kill by Iosua increased their lead to 24-17, but the Silverswords cut the Warrior lead to 24-19. An
Isabella Saucedo kill off a pass from
Eyriana Eatmon finished the set off for the hosts as they evened the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: After the break, the Warriors came out and took a 6-3 lead in the third set. The set went back and forth until Chaminade took a 21-14 lead capped by an Ajack Malual service ace. They took a 24-17 lead on a kill by Greta Corti. Stan State rallied with the next three points including on an
Alex Byrd kill to cut the deficit to 24-20. The Silverswords finished the set off taking it 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: Chaminade took an 8-1 lead in the fourth set. Stan State took seven of the next eight points including the final two on back-to-back kills by
Ellison Weaver and
Samaya Royal. The set went back and forth until the guests rallied for the final seven points to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
WARRIOR LEADERS: Isabella Saucedo had nine kills followed by
Samaya Royal's eight and
Mariah Iosua and
Ellison Weaver each with seven.
Haley Burdo had 18 assists while
Eyriana Eatmon had ten. Eatmon, Burdo, and
Gabby Rawson each had two service aces.
Rein Bocage had a team high 14 digs while Rawson had 11.
