TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State fell in four sets to the visiting Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles this evening (18-25, 31-29, 16-25, 23-25) in a
CCAA match-up at The Fitz.
Ellison Weaver had nine kills with
Mariah Iosua recording eight kills and five blocks for the Warriors.
Alex Byrd added five blocks for Stan State who will host Cal State Dominguez Hills tomorrow on Senior Day beginning at 2pm.
FIRST SET: The first set was even until Cal State Los Angeles (16-9, 14-3 CCAA) took a 16-11 lead on an Emily Elliott kill. A
Mariah Iosua kill cut the deficit to 19-15, but the visitors increased their lead to 23-16 on an Emily Elliott service ace. They took two of the final four points to take the set 25-18.
SECOND SET: Stan State (9-17, 3-14 CCAA) took a 13-10 lead on a
Rein Bocage service ace. Cal State Los Angeles recorded eight of the next 14 points to take a 18-16 lead. The Warriors came right back to take a 19-18 lead. The rest of the way was even until the hosts took the final three points keyed by three consecutive kills by
Alex Byrd (two) and
Mariah Iosua to take the set 31-29 and even the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: Once again, the set was even until the Golden Eagles took a 13-9 lead. They increased their lead to 19-10 on a kill by Emily Elliott. An
Ellison Weaver kill cut the deficit to 19-12. The visitors took a 23-15 lead on a Rachel Lowe kill. They finished the set off taking two of the final three points, 25-16, and to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: A combined block by
Mariah Iosua and
Alex Byrd gave the Warriors a 5-1 lead in the fourth set. The Golden Eagles tied the set at 8-8 on a combined block by Emily Elliott and Haley Roundtree. Stan State retook the lead and scored four of the next five points to take a 12-9 lead on a combined block by
Alex Byrd and
Makenna Carrillo. The set went back and forth the rest of the way with an Emily Elliott kill giving the guests a 20-18 lead. Stan State scored the next three points capped by a Carrillo key to take a 21-20 lead. The Warriors had a 23-22 lead, but the Golden Eagles finished the set off scoring the last three points capped by an Elliott kill, 25-23, and to take the match 3-1.
LEADERS: Ellison Weaver had nine kills and
Mariah Iosua added eight kills.
Rein Bocage had three service aces and
Alex Byrd had six total blocks to go with Iosua's five.
Haley Burdo added 23 assists to go with
Gabby Rawson 16 digs.
SENIOR DAY: Prior to the match tomorrow at 2pm, Stan State will recognize its two seniors in
Eyriana Eatmon and
Samaya Royal in the Warriors' regular season home finale. The Warriors will host Cal State Dominguez Hills in their regular season home finale. The Toros lost in four at Chico State earlier this afternoon.
