TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will host the Annual Four-Team Warrior Classic this Friday-Saturday, November 17-18 at The Fitzpatrick Arena. The three other teams are Academy of Art, Cal State East Bay, and Simon Fraser. Game times are 5pm and 7pm on Friday and 1pm and 3pm on Saturday. The Warriors will be playing the second game both days. The first 100 Warrior Fans to come to the game on Friday evening will receive a Warrior Women's Basketball Schedule Poster.
WARRIORS: Stan State went 1-1 this weekend in the Pioneer Conference Challenge in Hayward. The Warriors are averaging 66.0 points per game while giving up 65.0 points per game. They are being outrebounded 40 to 36.5. Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in
Mya Blake (16.5 ppg) and
Liliana Marques (13.0 ppg). Blake leads the team with her 57.1% shooting from the field, 55.6% shooting from three-point land, and eight assists.
Taylor Pilot leads Stan State with her five steals and
Joia Armstrong is averaging a team high 7.5 rebounds per game.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team. He is 111-163 in his coaching stint at Stan State. In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament. In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals. He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections. Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees. Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School. Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia. His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.
LAST WEEKEND IN HAYWARD: The Warriors went 1-1 this weekend at the Pioneer Conference Challenge in Hayward. They started the weekend with a 74-64 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Friday with five players in double digits in scoring led by
Liliana Marques' 13 points.
Mya Blake chipped in 11 points and the trio of
Taylor Pilot,
Joia Armstrong, and
Asha Walker each had 10 points. Stan State's bench outscored the Nighthawks' bench 34-9. The Warriors lost 66-58 to Central Washington on Saturday despite Blake's season high 22 points. Marques chipped in 13 points for the Warriors. They won the battle in points in the paint, 30-24.
WHAT A DEBUT: In her first action in a Warrior uniform after transferring from CCAA opponent, SF State, Blake averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in Stan State's first two games of the 2023-24 season. She went 12-for21 from the field including connecting on five of her nine attempts from beyond the arc. The junior transfer was four-for-six from the line. In Stan State's game against Central Washington, Blake scored a season high 22 points to lead the way for the Warriors.
SHE'S BACK: After a season off,
Taylor Pilot is back for her junior season. The 2021-22 All-CCAA honoree averaged 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals in the Warriors' first two games of the regular season. She shot 43% from the field and was four-for-six from the line. Pilot scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out five assists in Stan State's victory over Northwest Nazarene.
CCAA LEADERS: Stan State is in the top half of the CCAA in eight team statistical categories. The Warriors are second in field goal percentage defense (28.3%), third in scoring defense (65.0 ppg), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (31.4%), threes made per game (5.5), and assist/turnover ratio (+0.79). They are fifth in turnover margin (+4) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage defense (28.3%), and free throw percentage (71.4%).
Mya Blake is second in the league in field goal percentage, fifth in three's made per game, fifth in three-point field goal percentage, sixth in assist/turnover ratio, and eighth in scoring and assists per game.
Joia Armstrong is ninth in rebounding and
Taylor Pilot is tied for tenth in steals.

ACADEMY OF ART: The Urban Knights are 1-1 after its weekend in Oregon. They lost 94-74 to Western Oregon and came back to defeat Saint Martin's 64-63. Academy of Art is averaging 70.0 points per game while giving up 78.5 points per game. The Urban Knights are being outrebounded 43.5 to 28.5. They are shooting 43.6% from the field including 30% from three-point land and 71.4% from the line. Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Alba Rovira Ayuso (17.0 ppg), Anna Fornells (11.5 ppg), and Christy Ojide (10.5 ppg). Simon Fraser is averaging 66.0 points per game while giving up 68.8 points per game. The Red Leafs are outrebounding their opponents 39.4 to 36.8. Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Jessica Wisotzki (17.4 ppg), Gemma Cutler (14.0 ppg), and Sophia Wisotzki (12.6 ppg). Cutler leads the team with her 7.6 rebounding average, 17 blocked shots, and 58.8% shooting from the field. Jessica Wisotzki has made a team leading nine three's and shooting a team high 71.4% from the line. Sophia Wisotzki has recorded a team high seven steals and dished out a team leading 16 assists.

HAWAI'I: After Saturday's game versus Simon Fraser, the Warriors will travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i, for three non-conference games. They will start with a game at Hawai'I Pacific on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 5pm (HT). Stan State will conclude its stay in Hawai'i with two games in the Hoops in Hawai'i Thanksgiving Classic. The Warriors will face NAIA No. 3 Eastern Oregon on Friday, Nov. 24 at 1pm (HT) and Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1pm (HT). All three games will take place in the Shark Tank in Manoa, Hawai'i.
