ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Five Stan State Warriors scored in double figures to key their 82-77 victory over the Western Oregon Wolves this evening in the first game of the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge, presented by Cambria Hotel Sonoma Wine Country in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Tony Singleton led the way with 16 points with
Micah Boone and
Dontrell Hewlett each scoring 15 points.
John Wade III and
Daniel Ameyaw each chipped in 10 points. Ameyaw added ten rebounds for the Warriors for his first double-double of his career.
FIRST HALF: A three by Jason Gallant gave Western Oregon (1-3) an 18-7 lead in the first five minutes of the game. A
John Wade III jumper off a pass from
Jeremiah Jones cut the Warrior deficit to 22-19 with a little nine minutes left in the half. Carson Frincke's three increased the Wolves' lead to 33-24, but Stan State went on a mini 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 33-28. Western Oregon took a 39-32 lead into the locker room on two free throws by Kris Cook.
SECOND HALF: Kris Cook's two free throws increased Western Oregon's lead to 43-35 two minutes into the second half. Stan State (3-1) went on a 13-3 run capped by
Micah Boone's two free throws to cut the Warrior deficit to 48-46 at the 15-minute mark of the second half. Two minutes later a three by Boone off a pass from
Daniel Ameyaw gave Stan State a 54-51 lead. The game went back and forth the next ten minutes until a three by
Tony Singleton off a pass from
John Wade III gave the Warriors a 74-72 lead with a little over three minutes left in the game. Singleton's two free throws increased the Stan State lead to 78-72 with 37 seconds to go in regulation. A Cameron Benzel lay-up cut the Warrior lead to 80-77, but it was a little too late as Singleton's two free throws sealed the 82-77 victory.
WARRIOR BENCH: Once again, the Warrior bench outscored their opponents' bench. This time by a 35-13 advantage.
Dontrell Hewlett had 15 points while
John Wade III chipped in 10 points off the bench for the victors.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Daniel Ameyaw had his first double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. He went four-for-seven from the field and four offensive and six defensive rebounds. He added a blocked shots and two steals for Stan State.
17/27: Stan State had 17 assists on its 27 made baskets with
Daniel Ameyaw and
Tony Singleton leading the way each with five.
John Wade III added three assists for the Warriors.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will continue their play in the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge with a 4pm scheduled tip-off with the University of Sioux Falls Cougars. Sonoma State defeated Sioux Falls 65-64 this evening in the second game of the Challenge.
