ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- After coming back from first half deficits in their first two games of the week to defeat Dominican (Calif.) and Western Oregon, Stan State couldn't overcome a 16-point half-time deficit and loss to Sioux Falls (SD) 68-57 this afternoon in the Ron Logsdon Challenge in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Dontrell Hewlett paced the Warriors with 14 points.
FIRST HALF: Sioux Falls built a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A three by Jack Cartwright increased the Cougars' lead to 22-4 with eleven minutes left in the first half. A Kyle Ingwerson three gave Sioux Falls (1-3) a 40-20 lead with just 2:30 on the clock. Stan State outscored the Cougars 6-2 in the final 2:30 of the half to cut the deficit to 42-26 on a jumper by
Dontrell Hewlett heading into the half-time.
SECOND HALF: Jeremiah Jones' free throw cut the Warrior deficit to 44-31 just four minutes into the second half. Another three by the Cougars, this time by Kenji Scales, gave Sioux Falls a 49-32 lead at the 15:07 mark. A three by
Tony Singleton off a pass from
Cam Walker capped a 9-2 run by Stan State (3-2) as the Warriors cut Sioux Falls' lead to 51-41 with eleven minutes left in regulation. The Cougars hit another trey to increase their lead to 56-41. A Jones' jumper made it 56-45 Cougars with seven minutes on the clock. Sioux Falls outscored Stan State 11-9 to take a 67-50 with just 97 seconds to go in the game. The Warriors finished the game on a 7-2 run capped by a
John Wade III jumper, but it was a little too late as Sioux Falls took the 69-57 victory.
ONCE AGAIN: Once again, Stan State outscored its opponents' bench. This time it was 35-11.
Dontrell Hewlett led the way with 14 points in 29 minutes. He added two steals and six rebounds.
Jeremiah Jones added nine points and
John Wade III scored eight points while
Mahda Fallay had four points for the Warriors.
19: Stan State lost even though the Warriors forced 19 turnovers by Sioux Falls including eight by steals.
John Wade III had a game high four steals and
Dontrell Hewlett added two.
Mahda Fallay and
Cam Walker each had one steal for the Warriors.
ALL FOUR 1-1: All four teams that participated in the Ron Logsdon Challenge in Rohnert Park this weekend. Stan State, Sonoma State, Sioux Falls (SD), and Western Oregon each went 1-1. On Friday, the Warriors defeated Western Oregon 82-77 while Sonoma State defeated Sioux Falls 65-64. Saturday afternoon, Stan State lost 69-57 to Sioux Falls and Sonoma State lost 75-69 to Western Oregon.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will continue their season beginning six-game road trip this Wednesday, Nov. 22 with a 3pm non-conference game with Academy of Art. The game will take place in San Francisco at the Kezar Pavilion.
