SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Playing in its final non-conference game of the regular season, Stan State saw its comeback falls short in the Warriors' 81-72 loss at the history Kezar Pavilion this afternoon to the Academy of Art Urban Knights. Five Warriors scored in double digits paced by
Micah Boone's season high 18 points.
FIRST HALF: The beginning of the game went back and forth until the Warriors took a 14-12 lead on two made free throws by
Noel Alexander Jr. with eight minutes to go in the first half. Jamal Fuller's jumper in the paint gave the Urban Knights a 25-23 lead with three minutes left in the first half. Stan State (3-3) tied the game at 25-25 on a
Daniel Ameyaw jumper. Fullers' jumper capped a 7-0 run by Academy of Art to finish the half and give the hosts the 32-25 lead heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Academy of Art (2-2) continued the second half where the hosts left off the first half and increased its lead to 36-25 just a minute into the new half. Treylon Payne's jumper gave the Urban Knights a 51-36 lead.
Micah Boone's three capped a 14-2 run by the Warriors to cut the hosts' lead to 53-50 with eleven minutes left in the game. Rodney Munson's three-point play increased Academy of Art's lead to 58-50. Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors cut the deficit to 58-54 on a Boone jumper off a
Cam Walker pass at the 8:22 mark. The Urban Knights outscored the Warriors 15-9 to take a 73-63 with just 1:40 on the clock. Two free throws by Boone cut the deficit to single digits, 75-67. Academy of Art sealed the win going six-for-six from the charity stripe to take the 81-72 non-conference victory.
FIVE IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Stan State had five players score in double digits lead by
Micah Boone's 18 points.
Dontrell Hewlett added 14 points with
John Wade III and
Tony Singleton each chipping in 11 points.
Daniel Ameyaw added 10 points for the Warriors.
ONCE AGAIN: Stan State's bench outscored its opponents, this time, 40-13.
Micah Boone scored 18 points to go with his seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one blocked shot.
Dontrell Hewlett added 15 points while he grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked two shots, and had four steals.
Noel Alexander Jr. added five points and three rebounds for Stan State.
13%: The Warriors held Academy of Art to just 13.6% shooting from the field. The Urban Knights went three-for-22 from beyond the arc.
CCAA/HOME OPENER: Stan State will have its home opener which also be its CCAA opener on Thursday, November 30 when the Warriors host Cal State East Bay at 7:30pm. This will also be Schedule Poster Night as the first 100 Warrior fans will receive a poster. Stan State will continue its weekend homestand on Sunday, December 2 at 3pm when the Warriors host San Francisco State.
