Women’s Basketball Finishes 1-1 in Own Tournament

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After defeating Academy of Art 84-65 on Friday evening, Stan State lost 78-59 to Simon Fraser in the final game of its own Warrior Classic this afternoon at The Fitz.  Taylor Pilot led the way for the hosts with her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Mya Blake chipped in 11 points and Liliana Marques added 10 points for the Warriors, who finish the weekend 1-1.  
 
FIRST QUARTER:  The first half was even until the Red Leafs built a 10-7 lead on a lay-up by Gemma Cutler mid-way through the first quarter.  Simon Fraser (4-3) increased its lead to 17-9 with just 65 seconds left in the first ten-minute period.  Taylor Pilot's free throw cut the Warrior deficit to 17-12 heading into the second quarter.  
 
SECOND QUARTER:  The visitors built their lead back to seven (21-14) just two minutes into the quarter on a jumper by Sophia Wisotzki.  Mya Blake's jumper capped a 6-0 run by Stan State to cut the Red Leaf lead to 21-20 at the 6:56 mark of the second quarter.  Rachel Loukes' lay-up increased Simon Fraser's lead to 26-22, but a three by Asha Walker off an assist from Taylor Pilot cut the Warrior deficit to 26-25.  Simon Fraser finished the half on a 12-0 run to take a 38-25 lead into the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  An old-fashioned three-point play by Sophia Wisotzki increased the Red Leafe to 45-29 three minutes into the second half.  A Mya Blake three off a steal by Iman Addison capped a 11-0 run by Stan State (2-2) to cut the visitor's lead to 50-45 with just 2:12 on the clock in the quarter.  A jumper by Makenna Gardner gave Simon Fraser a 56-47 lead with one minute left in the quarter.  A three by Joia Armstrong off a pass by Addison cut the hosts' deficit to 56-50, but a free throw by Wisotzki gave Simon Fraser a 57-50 lead heading into the final quarter. 
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  Joia Armstrong's jumper to begin the fourth quarter made it Simon Fraser 57, Stan State 52.  Simon Fraser outscored its hosts 21-5 in the next eight minutes to take a 78-57 lead with just two minutes left in the game.  Alexis Woodson's two free throws made the final Simon Fraser 78-59.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Taylor Pilot finished with her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.  She also had two assists and two steals for the Warriors. 
 
24 TURNOVERS:  Stan State forced 24 turnovers by the Red Leafs including 11 by steals.  Joia Armstrong had four steals to lead the Warriors.  Taylor Pilot and Iman Addison each had two steals with Mya Blake, Alexis Woodson, and Ashmeen Sran each with one.  
 
ALL-TOURNEY:   Mya Blake was named to the six-member All-Tournament Team. Simon Fraser's Makenna Gardner was the Most Valuable Player, and she was joined on the team by Jessica Wisotzki and Sophia Wisotzki from the Red Leafs.  Also on the team were Cal State East Bay's Jaela Richardson and Academy of Art's Maddie Morrow. 
 
HAWAI'I NEXT:  Stan State will travel to the State of Hawai'i for its next three games.  The Warriors will face Hawai'i Pacific on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5pm (HT) at The Shark Tank in Honolulu,  They will finish their trip twih two games in the Hoops in Hawai'i Thanksgiving Classic facing NAIA No. 3 Eastern Oregon on Friday, Nov. 24 and Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sat., Nov. 25.  Both games will start at 1pm (HT) and take place at The Shark Tank.
