CHICO, Calif.--- Alexis Brewah scored her team leading seventh and eighth goals of the season to key the Stan State Warriors' 2-0 victory at Chico State this afternoon in both teams' regular season finale. With the win, the Warriors (8-5-5, 5-2-4 CCAA) clinched a spot in the CCAA Soccer Championships. Stan State is the fourth seed and will host the fifth seeded Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks this Sunday, Nov. 5 at noon at Warrior Stadium.
FIRST HALF: Stan State took the early 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute on a goal by
Alexis Brewah off a double assist from
Makeila Yancey and
Aliah Avilla. The guests had a chance to double their lead in the 19
th minute when
Kayla Perez's shot sailed wide of the post. Avilla had Stan State's next chance to double its lead in the 39
th minute when Emma Hofmann stopped her attempt. With less than a minute left in the half, Makenzie Gutowski had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 for Chico State (11-6-1, 6-4-1 CCAA) shot went over the crossbar as the match went into the half with the visitors leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The hosts had a chance to tie the match just a minute into the new stanza when Summer Baron's shot went wide of the goal. In the 55
th minute,
Makeila Yancey had chance to double the Warriors' lead but it went wide left of the net.
Alexis Brewah recorded her brace in the 58
th minute on unassisted goal to double the guests' lead to 2-0 and for her team leading eighth goal of the season. Chico State looked like it was going to cut the Warrior lead in half when
Malia Allen made one of her two saves stopping Avery Pieri's shot on goal attempt with 15 minutes left in the match. The hosts had another chance for a goal with less than 30 seconds left in the match when Allen stopped Brynn Howards's attempt as the match ended in a Stan State 2-0 victory.
STATS: Chico State held a 8-7 shot advantage, but the Warriors held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Malia Allen had two saves in goal for Stan State and Emma Hofmann had one save in goal for the hosts. Each team had five corner kicks.
CCAA TOURNAMENT: The First Round of the CCAA Soccer Championships will be this Sunday, November 5 at the number three and four seeds. The semi-finals and final will be at Cardinale Stadium on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif.
