Total Team Effort Keys Wire-to-Wire Victory over Central Valley Rival, Sunbirds, for Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Four Stan State Warriors scored in double digits to key the hosts' wire-to-wire 65-57 non-conference victory over the visiting Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (4-2) this evening at The Fitz.  Mya Blake had a game high 17 points to lead the way for the Warriors.  Joia Armstrong and Liliana Marques each chipped in 13 points with Taylor Pilot adding 10 points for the victors.
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Stan State (4-4) scored the game's first eight points keyed by two treys by Mya Blake and Liliana Marques in the first three minutes of the first quarter.  The Sunbirds cut the Warrior lead to 10-6 mid-way through the quarter on a jumper by Breanna Hurt.  A Blake lay-up increased the hosts' lead to 17-9 at the three-minute mark of the quarter.  Fresno Pacific came right back and went on a 6-0 run to cut its deficit to 17-15.  A Lyric Richardson jumper off a pass from Joia Armstrong gave Stan State a 19-15 lead heading into the second quarter.  
 
SECOND QUARTER:  The Warriors started the new quarter on a 11-2 run capped by a Lyric Richardson lay-up off a pass from Liliana Marques to take a 30-17 lead six minutes into the second quarter.  A Maesyn Rix jumper cut the Warrior lead to 32-23 heading into the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  Fresno Pacific started the second half on a 4-0 mini run to make it 32-25 Stan State.  Talia Maxwell's jumper capped a 8-2 run by the hosts as they took a 40-27 lead mid-way through the third quarter.  Once again, the visitors came back and cut the lead to 40-34 on two free throws by Joleen Corona with 2:59 left in the quarter.  Taylor Pilot's free throw increased the Warrior lead back to double digits, 45-34, at the 1:49 mark.  Julie Ramirez's jumper capped a 5-0 run by the Sunbirds to end the quarter and cut the Warrior lead to 45-39.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  The Sunbirds continued their run and Felicia Dourva's trey cut the hosts' lead to 46-44 just one minute into the final quarter.  Joia Armstrong's jumper increased Stan State's lead to 50-44 at the 6:43 mark.  With a little under six minutes left in the game, Armstrong's lay-up gave Stan State a 52-45 lead.  Dourva's free throw with three minutes to go capped a 5-0 run by FPU and cut the Warrior lead to 52-50.  Stan State went on a 5-0 run of its own to take a 57-50 lead with 78 seconds to go in regulation.  A trey by Jasmine Heu on the Sunbirds' next possession made it 57-53.  The Warriors finished the game going eight-for-eight from the charity stripe with four players each going two-for-two in Talia Maxwell, Liliana Marques, Taylor Pilot, and Mya Blake to seal the Warriors' eight-point non-conference victory.
 
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS:  Stan State had four players score in double digits this evening led by Mya Blake's game high 17 points.  She went six-for-14 from the field including one-for-two from three-point land.  Blake added four points from the line to go with her eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist.  Liliana Marques and Joia Armstrong each chipped in 13 points and Taylor Pilot added 10 points off the bench.
 
WON THE BATTLE OF THE GLASS:  The Warriors won the battle of the glass, 40-34, led by Maya Blake's career high eight rebounds.  Joia Armstrong, Lyric Richardson, and Liliana Marques each had six rebounds for the victors with Taylor Pilot grabbing five boards.
 
DEFENSE:  Stan State held FPU to just 33.9% shooting from the field including 29.6% shooting from three-point land.  The Warriors forced 23 turnovers by the Sunbirds including ten steals.  Four players had two steals each in Joia Armstrong, Mya Blake, Liliana Marques, and Taylor Pilot.  Lyric Richardson and Jadyn Patterson each had one steal.
 
CCAA OPENING WEEKEND:  The Warriors will continue their three-game homestand this weekend with a pair of CCAA games at The Fitz.  They will host Cal State East Bay this Thursday, November 30 at 5:30pm and SF State this Sunday, December 2 at 1pm.
