TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's defense held the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers to just 27% shooting from the field including 12% shooting from beyond the arc to key the Warriors' 23-point conference opening victory, 69-46. The Warriors forced 26 turnovers of which 14 came on steals in the victory.
Lyric Richardson had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with her two blocked shots and two steals for the hosts.
FIRST QUARTER: Cal State East Bay (2-4, 0-1 CCAA) jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A
Taylor Pilot lay-up capped a 7-2 run by the Warriors as they took a 11-9 lead. Pilot's layup gave the hosts a 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: The second quarter was back and forth until Stan State (5-4, 1-0 CCAA) took a 27-19 lead on a
Kalyn Harris lay-up off a pass from
Alexis Woodson with four minutes left in the half. The Warriors increased their lead to double digits, 33-22, with just 54 seconds left in the second quarter on two made free throws by
Liliana Marques. A Payton Sterk lay-up cut the Warrior lead to 33-24 heading into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER: Lyric Richardson's free throw capped an 8-3 run by the Warriors to begin the second half as they took a 41-27 lead just three minutes into the third quarter. A trey by Lailah Carey cut the Pioneer deficit to 43-34 at the 4:20 mark of the third quarter. Stan State finished the quarter outscoring its guests 7-2 to take a 50-36 heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Stan State continued its run in the fourth quarter as the Warriors started the quarter outscoring the Pioneers 12-5 to take a 62-41 with 4:30 to go in the game. A
Taylor Pilot lay-up off a steal increased Stan State's lead to 67-43 with just two minutes to go in the game. Stan State held on for the 69-46 CCAA victory.
DEFENSE: Stan State held its visitors to just 27.7% shooting from the field including just 13% from three-point land. The Warriors forced 26 turnovers including 14 steals. Four of those steals came from
Taylor Pilot. Four Warriors had two steals each in
Lyric Richardson,
Jadyn Patterson,
Aunika Hornung, and
Kalyn Harris.
Mya Blake and
Liliana Marques each had one steal.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Lyric Richardson became the third Warrior to record a double-double this season with her 13-point, 11-rebound performance this evening. She went five-for-ten from the field and made three free throws to go with her two blocked shots and two steals.
Taylor Pilot and
Joia Armstrong each have recorded double-doubles this season for Stan State.
TRIO IN DOUBLE FIGURES: Three Warriors scored in double figures this evening in
Lyric Richardson (13 points),
Taylor Pilot (13 points), and
Aunika Hornung (10 points). Richardson had 11 rebounds to go with her 13 points. Pilot had four steals and four assists to go with her 13 points. Hornung had two steals and two blocked shots for Stan State.
