TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State finished its two-game home stand with a 70-65 CCAA victory over the visiting San Francisco State Gators at The Fitz this afternoon.
Daniel Ameyaw recorded his second career double-double with career highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the hosts.
Dontrell Hewlett and
John Wade III each chipped in 14 points for the victors.
FIRST HALF: John Wade III's three off a
Jonathan Tchengang pass gave the Warriors a 15-6 lead just seven minutes into the game. Another trey by Wade increased the hosts' lead to 18-8. San Francisco State (4-3, 0-2 CCAA) went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 18-18 with 9;26 left in the half.
Dontrell Hewlett's lay-up gave the hosts a 22-18 lead, but once again the Gators tied the game at 22-22. The game went back and forth with SF State taking a 29-27 lead on two free throws by John Bakke with 2:41 left in the half. The Warriors outscored their guests 11-4 in the final minutes of the half to take a 38-33 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: Stan State (4-4, 1-1 CCAA) started the second half on a 10-5 run capped by a
Jonathan Tchengang jumper off a pass from
John Wade III to take a 48-35 lead just three minutes into the new stanza. A trey by Donovan Cooks capped a 10-0 run by the Gators as they cut the Warrior lead to 48-45. A
Will Chavarin trey off a pass from
Tony Singleton increased the hosts' lead to 54-45 at the 11:35 mark of the second half. Stan State increased its lead to 57-47 on a
Jeremiah Jones' free throw mid-way through the second twenty-minute period. The Gators outscored the Warriors 18-6 in the next eight minutes to take a 65-63 lead on a two free throws by Caleb Oden. Stan State went on a mini 4-0 run to retake the lead on a
Daniel Ameyaw jumper and a Tchengang jumper, 65-63 with just 68 seconds to go in regulation. The Warrior defense held the Gators without a basket on their next possession. Chavarin sealed the Warrior victory with a trey off a pass from
Dontrell Hewlett, 75-70.
THIRD DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Daniel Ameyaw had a career night with his second double-double of his career. The sophomore post player scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 33 minutes. He went seven-of-12 from the field and four-for-five from the line. Ameyaw grabbed 12 rebounds including five offensive rebounds.
DEFENSE: Stan State forced 18 turnovers by its opponents including seven by steals. Three of those steals came by
Dontrell Hewlett with
Will Chavarin recording two.

Jonathan Tchengang each had one The Warriors held the Gators to just 41% shooting from the field including 30% from three-point land.
ALSO IN DOUBLE FIGURES: John Wade III and
Dontrell Hewlett each scored 14 points for the Warriors this evening. Hewlett was six-for-11 from the field, one-for-three from three-point land and one-for-two from the line. He also had three steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Wade was four-for-12 from the field, two-of-six from threes, and a perfect four-for-four from the charity stripe. The sophomore transfer had eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return to the road for a three-game road trip beginning with two games next week in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Warriors will face Cal State Dominguez Hills this Thursday, December 7 at 7:30pm in Carson. They will be in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 8 for a 3pm scheduled game with Cal State Los Angeles. The Warriors will have an exhibition game on Monday, December 18 against the University of the Pacific at 7pm in Stockton. They will return to regular season action on New Year's Eve for a 3pm scheduled game in Seaside against Cal State Monterey Bay. Stan State will return home in the New Year for a 7:30pm scheduled game with Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, January 4 at The Fitz.
