Strong Second Half by Cal State L.A. Keys Win over the Warriors

LOS ANGELES--  Stan State was outscored 52-36 in the second half as the Warriors lost 95-83 this afternoon to the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles in a CCAA match-up at University Gym on the campus of Cal State L.A.  Four Warriors scored in double figures led by John Wade III's career high 25 points.  Tony Singleton chipped in 18 points while Daniel Ameyaw recorded his third career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Micah Boone chipped in 13 points.
 
FIRST HALF: Stan State took an early 13-8 lead on a trey by Tony Singleton in the first three minutes of the game. Cal State Los Angeles (7-2, 3-1 CCAA) went on a 9-0 run capped by a Kris Krause three to cut into the Warrior lead, 13-11.  The guests followed that Golden Eagle run with a 13-2 run of their own capped by a Micah Boone trey off a John Wade III assist.  Wade's two free throws increased the Warrior lead to 32-18 with 9:49 left in the half.  The hosts came right back with a 14-4 run to make it Stan State 36-32 with just five minutes on the clock.  Twice in the final minutes of the half the Warriors increased their lead to nine including, 47-38, on a Dontrell Hewlett lay-up.  The Golden Eagles scored the final five points of the half to make it Warriors 47-43 heading into the locker room. 
 
SECOND HALF:  The Golden Eagles' run going in the first nine of the new half as they outscored Stan State 27-12 to take a 70-59 lead.  An Isaiah Fields' dunk increased the hosts' lead to 76-61 at the 8:19 mark of the second half.  Cal State Los Angeles kept its lead around 15 including, 83-68, on a Deuce Walker lay-up with five minutes to go in regulation.  Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors cut the deficit to 85-76 on three free throws by Micah Boone with 3:25 on the clock.  Cal State L.A. increased its lead twice to 15 in the final minutes including 95-80 with just 44 seconds left in the game.  A trey by Tony Singleton on a pass by Boone made the final 95-83.
 
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS:  The Warriors had four players in double digits led by John Wade III's career high 25 points.  Tony Singleton chipped in 18 points.  Daniel Ameyaw recorded his third career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.  Micah Boone chipped in 13 points. 
 
22/26:  Stan State was 22-for-26 from the charity stripe for an 84.6% percentage.  Daniel Ameyaw (four-for-four), Tony Singleton (three-for-three), and Jeremiah Jones (two-for-two) didn't miss in their attempts from the charity stripe.  John Wade III was nine-for-ten and Micah Boone went three-for-four and Jonathan Tchengang was one-for-two.
 
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS:  The Warriors won the battle of the boards, 39-21, led by Daniel Ameyaw's career high 14 rebounds.  John Wade III had seven rebounds and Dontrell Hewlett grabbed four re bounds.  Two Warriors grabbed three rebounds each in Will Chavarin and Jonathan Tchengang
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State (4-6, 1-3 CCAA) will be off until Monday, December 17, when the Warriors travel to Stockton for a 7pm scheduled exhibition game at the University of the Pacific.  They will return to conference action on New Year's Eve for a 3pm game at Cal State Monterey Bay.  Stan State will return home in the New Year on January 4 for 7:30pm scheduled tip-off with Cal State San Marcos.
