LOS ANGELES--- Stan State picked up his fifth straight win and improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA after a 62-61 victory over Cal State L.A. this afternoon at University Gym in Los Angeles.
Mya Blake had a game high 18 points with
Liliana Marques adding 16 points for the victors. With the win and a loss by Cal State San Marcos, the Warriors sit all alone in first place heading into the Holidays.
FIRST QUARTER: The first quarter went back and forth until Cal State L.A. (5-4, 2-2 CCAA) took a 6-5 lead on a trey by Amaya Fuentes. Stan State outscored the Golden Eagles 5-3 in the next two minutes to take a 10-9 lead on a trey by
Liliana Marques off a pass from
Mya Blake. A Blake three off a
Taylor Pilot steal capped a 5-0 run by the visitors as they increased their lead to 15-9 late in the quarter. A lay-up by Donja Payne cut the Warrior lead to 15-11 heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: Iman Addison's two made free throws capped a quarter beginning 5-0 run by Stan State to increase its lead to 20-11 two and a half minutes into the second quarter. Nicole Flennaugh's trey cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to 20-16.
Mya Blake's trey capped a 14-2 Warrior run as they took a 34-18 lead with three minutes left in the half. Stan State increased its lead to 39-21 on a trey by
Jadyn Patterson off a pass by
Liliana Marques with just two minutes left on the clock for the half. The Golden Eagles outscored Stan State 6-1 run in the final two minutes of the half to cut the Warrior lead to 40-27 heading into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER: Cal State Los Angeles started the third quarter outscoring its visitors 8-2 to cut the Warriors' lead to 42-35 just two minutes into the second half.
Aunika Hornung's lay-up increased the guests' lead to double digits (47-37) at the 6:21 mark of the third quarter. The hosts outscored Stan State 7-3 in the next five minutes to make it Warriors 50-44. A

Taylor Pilot gave the Warriors a 53-44 lead, but the Golden Eagles' Donja Payne hit a lay-up to cut the Stan State lead to 53-46 heading into the final ten-minute period.
FOURTH QUARTER: The Golden Eagles kept their run going as they scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to cut the Warrior lead to 53-50 ninety seconds into the final ten-minute period.
Liliana Marques scored the Warriors next four points as Stan State took a 57-50 lead at the 7:47 mark of the fourth quarter. Nicole Flennaugh's trey capped a 11-2 run by the hosts as they took a 61-59 lead with 65 seconds on the game clock. Stan State retook the lead, 62-61, on a Marques' trey off a pass from
Taylor Pilot with 1:05 left in regulation. Each team turned the ball over on their next possession. The Golden Eagles was fouled on their final possession with eight seconds on the clock, but missed both free throws and Pilot secured the rebound as the Warriors took the 62-61 victory.
DEFENSE: Stan State held the Golden Eagles to just 37.9% shooting from the field while forcing 18 turnovers. Thirteen of the turnovers came on Warrior steals.

ALL ALONE IN FIRST PLACE: With its win today, Stan State is the only undefeated team in conference play heading into the Holiday Break. The Warriors are 4-0 in CCAA play and 8-4 overall. Sonoma State and Cal State San Marcos each are 3-1 and six teams are 2-2 in Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Los Angeles, Chico State, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State East Bay, and Cal State San Bernardino.
FIVE-GAME WINNING STREAK: Stan State has won its last five games in a row since starting the season 3-4. During that streak, the Warriors are outscoring their opponents 67.6 to 59.0 points per game while holding them to just 33% shooting from the field including 30% from three-point land. They are forcing 20.8 turnovers per game while recording 12.2 steals per game.
Mya Blake leads the way with her 13.4 scoring average followed by
Liliana Marques' 11.4 scoring average.
Aunika Hornung is averaging 8.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while blocking nine shots.
Taylor Pilot has 15 assists, and 16 steals and
Jadyn Patterson is shooting 62% from three-point land.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will have three games this week including two important West Regional games. They will host Seattle Pacific this Thursday, December 14 on Ugly Christmas Sweater Game at 5:30pm. Stan State will travel to Reno, Nev., for a 1pm exhibition game at the University of Nevada on Saturday, December 16. The Warriors' last game before the Holiday Break will be Sunday, December 17 at 2pm against Alaska Anchorage. They will return to CCAA play on New Year's Eve in Seaside, Calif., for a 1pm contest with Cal State Monterey Bay.
