Otters Defeat Stan State But Warriors Stay in Play-off Hunt

TURLOCK, Calif. ---  Cal State Monterey Bay shot 50% from the field in the Otters' 82-66 victory over Stan State this evening in a CCAA match-up at Fitzpatrick Arena.  Marlon Short paced the Warriors with 24 points while Jeremiah Jones chipped in 15 points and Kobe Ordonio added 11 points for Stan State.

FIRST HALF: The Otters jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game.  A Benno Zecic old-fashioned three-point play cut the CSUMB lead to 17-10 at the 14 minute mark of the half.  A Levi Frankland three increased the Otter lead to 27-15.  Once again, Stan State (9-16, 7-12) cut the deficit to single digits on a Kobe Ordonio jumper (27-19).  Cal State Monterey Bay finished the half outscoring the Warriors 15-9 to take a 42-28 lead into the half.

SECOND HALF:  In the first five minutes of the second half, the Otters (10-13, 8-10 CCAA) took a 53-32 on a Damjen Agovic lay-up.  The Warriors didn't go away as they went on a 15-2 run to cut the deficit to 55-47 on a Kobe Ordonio lay-up.  The Otters outscored the 13-5 to take a 68-52 lead with just a little under four minutes to go in the game. Stan State cut the Otter lead to 75-62 with 1:50 on the clock on a Marlon Short three-point play, but it was a little too late as CSUMB took the 82-66 victory.

STILL ALIVE:  Even with their loss tonight, Stan State is still alive for a berth in the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships.  The Warriors are 1.5 games out with three games left in the season. Cal State San Bernaridno is first followed by Cal State San Marcos.  Tied for third is Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt.  Sitting in fifth place is SF State followed by Cal State Monterey Bay.  In four-way tie for seventh place is Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Los Angeles, Chico State and Cal State East Bay followed by the Warriors.

15th STRAIGHT GAME: Marlon Short recorded his 15th straight game of scoring in double digits with his 24 points this evening.  He has scored in double figures in all but two games this season.

CAREER NIGHT:  Jeremiah Jones had a career night this evening with 15 points.  He went six-for13 from the field including connecting on a trey.  Jones was two-for-two from the line.

SENIOR DAY:  Prior to Saturday's game with SF State at 3pm, the Warriors will recognize their senior in Kobe Ordonio in a brief ceremony at mid-court.  SF State defeated Chico State 64-60 in Chico this evening.
