TURLOCK, Calif.---The visiting SF State Gators outscored Stan State 42-28 in the second half to key their 80-65 victory this afternoon in the Warriors' home finale. Prior to tip-off, Stan State recognized its only senior in
Kobe Ordonio who finished with a team high 18 points and three steals.
Marlon Short added 15 points while
Benno Zecic added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Warriors.
FIRST HALF: A
Kobe Ordonio three off a pass from
Benno Zecic gave the Warriors an early 7-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The game went back and forth until a Zecic three gave the hosts a 21-16 lead nine minutes into the game. A three by CJ Bellamy capped a 7-2 run by SF State (14-12, 10-10 CCAA) to give the Gators a 25-23 lead. Stan State came right back and scored the next five points all by
Marlon Short including a trey off a pass from
Baljot Sahi to give the hosts a 28-25 lead. An
Isaiah Jones lay-up off a steal and assist from Zecic gave the Warriors a 34-32 lead with two minutes to go in the half. SF State finished the half outscoring the Warriors 6-2 to take a 38-36 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The Gators came out of the locker room outscoring Stan State 20-6 to take a 58-42 lead in the first seven minutes of the new stanza. Two free throws by Jalen Flanagan increased SF State's lead to 66-46 at the mid-way point of the second half. Twice the Warriors cut the deficit to 14 including on a jumper by
Marlon Short (74-60) with 2:39 on the clock. That's the closest that Stan State would get as the Gators held on for the 80-64 victory.
SENIOR DAY: Stan State recognized its only senior in
Kobe Ordonio prior to the game in a ceremony. Ordonio is a senior transfer from Cal State San Bernardino. Earlier this season, he was named the CCAA Player of the Week. This evening, he finished with 18 points on six-for-15 shooting from the field including going two-for-five from three-point land. He also was four-for-four from the lien, dished out two assists and had three steals.
MOVIN' ON UP: Benno Zecic finished this afternoon with 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in 37 minutes. This season he has 166 assists and 60 steals which places him second on the Stan State single season assists list and fourth on the steals list. For his career, Zecic has scored 427 points, grabbed 265 rebounds, dished out 308 assists and recorded 118 steals. He is fourth on the Warrior career list in assists.
16TH STRAIGHT GAME: Marlon Short has scored in double digits in 16 straight games. This afternoon, he scored 15 points on six-for-13 shooting from the field including connecting on a trey and going two-for-two from the line.
14-for-14: Stan State went 14-for-14 from the line this afternoon.
Kobe Ordonio and
Daniel Ameyaw each went four-for-four with
Marlon Short,
Matt Bender and
Ramon Farias each going two-for-two.
LAST GAMES: Stan State will finish off its regular season this coming week on the road in the Inland Valley of Southern California. The Warriors will be at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, February 23 at 7:30pm. They will finish off the season at No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino with a 3pm tip-off on Saturday, February 25.
