Otters Outlast Stan State 70-62 in Homecoming Battle

TURLOCK, Calif. – It was a tale of two halves for the Warriors in their second-to-last home game of the 2022-23 season. Stan State outscored Cal State Monterey Bay in quarters two and four, but efficient shooting put the Otters in position to get the victory. Makayla Rose and Joia Armstrong finished with a collective 32 points for the night.

FIRST QUARTER: The Otters maintained the lead through the entire first quarter after getting out to a hot 9-for-13 start from the field. After a few early buckets in the opening minutes, the Warriors got hit with a six-minute scoring drought that put them behind 21-10 at the first buzzer.

SECOND QUARTER: Stan State saw a balanced scoring attack come at the hands of Armstrong, Rose, and Liliana Marques in the second period. Despite a tough night shooting the ball, Marques finished with eight points, corralling seven rebounds and four steals. The lead was cut down to eight before heading into the locker room, following an improved 40.0% shooting quarter from the field.

THIRD QUARTER: Some solid contributions from the bench kept things close in the Fitz, with a timely three-pointer from Ashmeen Sran and free-throws from Ashley Lewis. Armstrong and Rose also combined for eight points in the quarter, but struggled to buckle down defensively with a 54-40 deficit.

FOURTH QUARTER: The final quarter showcased Stan State's best shooting display from deep. Jadyn Patterson buried two buckets from beyond the arc to help will the team to within single digits. However, timely misses in the final two minutes gave the Otters just the chance they needed to close out the game with an eight-point victory.

UP NEXT: Back for their final home game of the regular season, the Warriors will host San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 18th.
