Warriors Can’t Close In vs. SF State 86-75

TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State played their final home game of the 2022-23 season and were not quite able to bring home the win against the Gators. Makayla Rose finished her day just one point shy of 30, ending with 29 points, four steals, and two assists.

FIRST QUARTER: The Warriors got out to a solid start after going with the backcourt duo of Joia Armstrong and Lyric Richardson to start the game. Both bigs got things started in the scoring department with a combined six points in the opening six minutes of play, however a scoring drought in the final two minutes of the quarter brought a double-digit deficit at 23-12.

SECOND QUARTER: The team made a killing from the free throw line, knocking down 10 of their 14 trips to the line in the quarter. Their aggressive attack however, was met by four three-pointers from the Gators, who stretched their lead to 19 before the half.

THIRD QUARTER: Armstrong finished an efficient shooting game, going 7-for-14 from the field while also extending her range to the three-point line. She would finish with 17 points and six rebounds. She and Liliana Marques would find their touch from both mid-range and in the painted area, as Marques ended the day with 11 points, a majority of which came from her seven made free-throws. The team would look to carry that scoring into the fourth quarter, down 68-51.

FOURTH QUARTER: Rose picked up her scoring in the fourth quarter, connecting on 16 of her 29 points in the first six and a half minutes. The Warriors' run closed the lead to as little as seven points, but lack of scoring in the final two minutes ended the quarter at 86-75.

UP NEXT: Stan State meets Cal Poly Pomona on their home floor this Thursday, Feb. 23rd at 1pm. This is the team's second and final matchup of the season.
