POMONA, Calif. – The Warriors final meeting against the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona came to an unfortunate conclusion, as Pomona takes the season series 2-0.
Makayla Rose led the scoring efforts for Stan State with 21 points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
FIRST QUARTER: The visiting Warriors got off to a rough shooting start to begin the game, unable to knock down any of their three-point attempts in the first quarter. Since no free throw attempts were taken in the opening quarter of play, Stan State converted all of their points from inside the arc. Rose,
Alexis Woodson, and
Ashmeen Sran were responsible for all ten of the team's points. The Broncos found their stroke early, knocking down 9-of-18 field goal attempts and 2-of-4 three-pointers to help spark a 23-10 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: Shooting struggles continued in the second quarter for the Warriors, who only converted three of their field goal attempts in the period. Woodson,
Joia Armstrong, and
Aunika Hornung were responsible for the team's scoring, while Rose picked up an assist and a steal before heading into the locker room down 40-16.
THIRD QUARTER: Sran opened up the second half with a three-ball in a perfect 2-for-2 shooting night to finish with five points.
Liliana Marques also knocked down back-to-back field goals for the Warriors to try and chip away at the deficit. The Broncos, however, went 4-for-4 on their free throw attempts and would stretch the lead to 56-31 before the start of the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER: The Warriors began to ramp up their free-throw attempts in the final period, as Rose, Armstrong, and
Jadyn Patterson knocked down nearly all of their shot attempts in the quarter. The efficient was not quite enough to stop Pomona's from making a killing at the foul line, sinking 11 of their 17 free-throw attempts in the period. They would finish out the game outscoring the Warriors 78-52.
