Warriors Unable to Win the Series, Going on 0-2 vs. the Pioneers

TURLOCK, Calif. – After splitting their home opener on Friday, the Warriors couldn't manage to take the series against Cal State East Bay on day two. Unable to string runs together in game one, Mikaela Ferreira led the team with two hits on her three at bats, while Kyndra Marzorini left the mound striking out five batters. Batting in game two was led by Sarah Warden and Ferreira once again, scoring a run each. Alarcon led off the game, pitching 4.1 innings with one strikeout.

GAME ONE: The opener went scoreless until the top of the 2nd, when a triple to left center gave East Bay a two-score lead. This was quickly followed by an unfortunate error on a fly ball to second base that led to a third Pioneers run. The Warriors had no trouble getting on base, but struggled to put any balls out of reach, leaving a total of 13 runners on base at the game's conclusion.

PITCHING POSITIVES: Marzorini's five strikeouts was her second-best performance so far this season. The junior has amassed a total of 16 in just three games played.

FIELDING POSITIVES: Sarah Warden, Karli DalBianco, and Jalyssa Ledesma were the team's standouts with five putouts each in a day that gave them plenty of action. Ferreira and Marzorini also racked up three assists a piece.

GAME TWO: Game two saw glimpses of success in the Warriors' favor, after seeing two runs in the first and third inning from Warden and Ferreira. Unfortunately, the team gave up three runs in the fifth inning, dropping their 2-1 lead. Victoria Alarcon and Jessell Lewis took the mound for the final series matchup and collected a combined three strikeouts and eight groundouts.

SCORING SUMMARY: The lone scorers in Warden and Ferreira got early runs for Stan State from a Ferreira RBI double, which subsequently led to Warden's score. A  Kaylee Heath's ground ball to the shortstop advanced Ferreira home in the third.

PLENTY PUTOUTS: Avery Fitch came found her groove at first base with seven putouts. DalBianco and Lauryn Serda also chipped in three putouts each. The fielding effort ended with 21 total putouts, on six assists.

UP NEXT: Stan State heads up to Sonoma State for the weekend series starting Friday, Feb. 24th.
