Stan State Falls in Rainy Series Opener at Sonoma State 5-3

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – After a last-minute location change due to field conditions, the Warriors faced the Seawolves on a different turf (literally) in their opening game of the series. Mikaela Ferreira put the team's first home run over the fence, but Stan State's late scoring run was too-little-too-late to get the first game victory.

GAME ONE: The 11-1 Seawolves came into the matchup as one of only two undefeated teams in the CCAA. They got busy very early in the game, scoring four of their five runs in the first inning of play. The Warriors racked up eight hits in their 29 total at bats, earning two runs off RBIs.

SCORING SUMMARY: Ferreira was Stan State's standout performer in the hitting category, batting a perfect 1.000 on her four total at bats, including two of her team's RBIs. Emily Bigley managed to score on Ferreira's double to center field in the first inning. Later on, Ferreira's homer to center field brought the team's total runs to two. Kaylee Heath's single in the seventh inning led to a Sonoma State error that brought Ferreira her second run of the game.

PRIMARY PITCHER: Victoria Alarcon pitched the long haul as the Warriors lone pitcher in game one. In her 27 batters faced, Alarcon had three strikeouts, five groundouts, and didn't walk a single batter.

FIELDING FLURRY: The Warriors fielding amassed 18 putouts and four assists in the game, while only being responsible for one error. 1B Avery Fitch and CF Lauryn Serda saw the most action come their way, leading the team with four putouts a piece.

UP NEXT: Stanislaus State will return to action tomorrow for games three and four of the series after rain canceled their game two plans until a later date. First pitch will happen at 12pm back on Sonoma State's home field.
