Warriors Put Finishing Touches on the Season in SoCal

2/21/2023 2:09:00 PM

LAST GAME: The Warriors couldn't quite close out their home series in the win column after close losses to Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: As the regular season nears its completion, matchups against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino are next on the list for the Warriors.

AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS: Stan State solidified their top spots in the defensive rankings in the final week of the regular season, finishing 1st in blocks per game (3.92) and 2nd in steals (10.42). Makayla Rose will mostly likely end her freshman campaign as the CCAA's leading scorer (20.4 ppg) and is only a half a steal away from tying the top average in the conference (3.2 spg). Her steals average moves her seven more spots up the NCAA Division II rankings to 13th in the country. Joia Armstrong is currently 6th in blocks per game (1.2), followed by Lyric Richardson (0.6), Aunika Hornung (0.6), and Iman Addison (0.4) who each remain top-25 in blocks.

CAL POLY POMONA: The Broncos have clinched a conference playoff spot after a 12-8 CCAA record this season. The sixth seed team currently has the fifth best offense and defense in the conference, with the third-best three-point shooting percentage (33.9%). Three Broncos are averaging double figures in scoring, including Senior guard Ally Bates (14.0 ppg) who is the conference's best free-throw shooter (92.6%).

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors lost a one-point nail biter to the Broncos in their first meeting this season and are 7-22 historically since 2018 against Cal Poly Pomona in the all-time series.

CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO: The 'Yotes have been a middle-of-the-pack team through the season's end, and as a result did not make the cut for playoff contention. The team is fifth in CCAA combined team rebounds and are led by the scoring of redshirt Junior Destiny Jackson (13.3 ppg). Despite her scoring, Jackson struggles from the free-throw line, shooting just 58.7% from the stripe.

ALL-TIME SERIES: In their last meeting, the 'Yotes stole the three-point win over the Warriors to move the historical record to 19-11 since 2008.

CCAA NETWORK:  To view the live stats for this week's games to https://warriorathletics.com/sidearmstats/wbball/summary and for the CCAA network go to www.ccaanetwork.com/Stan.  The CCAA network has a monthly subscription rate of $9.95, which can watch any CCAA sport that is hosted at any CCAA institution during that 30-day period.

UP NEXT FOR THE WARRIORS: This road trip will mark the end of Stan State's 2022-23 season. With no official seniors on this year's squad, the team will expect to retain a majority of their roster in the offseason.
