TURLOCK, Calif. – The Warriors played their last home game of the weekend against the Seawolves for their second meeting this year. Shooting struggles early on plagued the home team, who fought hard on the defensive in an effort to comeback from an early deficit.
FIRST QUARTER: Stan State had a slow start on offense to start the game, knocking down just two of their field goal attempts in the period. They were however, able to force three turnovers against Sonoma State at the hands of
Makayla Rose,
Iman Addison, and
Alexis Woodson.
SECOND QUARTER: Down 23-5 to begin the second quarter, both teams remained scoreless until the seven-minute mark. Rose spearheaded the offensive possessions, connecting on nine of her 22 points before heading into the locker room down 31-22. Once again, the Warriors turned things up on defense to force an impressive eight turnovers in the period.
THIRD QUARTER: Woodson and
Joia Armstrong were able to get into on offensive flow heading into the second half, finishing with a combined 12 points for the game. Armstrong also picked up nine rebounds, four steals, and two blocks to cap off a stout defensive effort. Woodson snagged five steals and corralled five rebounds on a 3-for-7 performance from the field. Despite the swarming defense, Stan State still found themselves down 12 points with a quarter to go.
FOURTH QUARTER: Another rough quarter for the Warriors resulted in a few scoring droughts that the Seawolves were able to capitalize on. Sonoma State saw three players hit double-figures in scoring and were tough to contain in the 66-48 finish at the Fitz.
