LOS ANGELES, Calif. – After a close first quarter against the Golden Eagles, the Warriors faced adversity trying to stay on pace with their matchup through the remainder of the game.
FIRST QUARTER: The first quarter started with a 7-0 lead by the visiting Stan State, as the team's leading scorers
Makayla Rose,
Liliana Marques, and
Alexis Woodson all got going on offense to command the first four and a half minutes of play. The collective scored a combined 40 points on the night.
SECOND QUARTER: Down 15-12 to start the second, the turnover bug hit the Warriors in the early minutes of the period. The Golden Eagles then went on to shoot over 40% from both the field and from deep to run away with a double-digit lead at the 8:15 mark. A two-minute scoring drought was revitalized after a Marques steal followed by a Rose three-pointer in transition helped breathe life into the team. Woodson then followed things up with another three-point bomb of her own before the half to thin the deficit to 13.
THIRD QUARTER: Joia Armstrong and Rose took hold of the offense in the second half. Armstrong, Rose, and Marques would go on to score all but 10 of the Warriors points in the final, while shooting over 40% from the field as a whole. Armstrong ended with a near double-double of 10 points and nine rebounds. However, tough misses from Stanislaus State saw Cal State LA go up 57-40 before heading into the final quarter of play.
FOURTH QUARTER: The Warriors' backcourt of
Aunika Hornung and
Iman Addison connected on buckets in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Addison would go on to finish with four points and five rebounds. Rose would make one last push at the Golden Eagles, with six more points in the quarter. She would finish with a team-high 26 points in the 74-55 loss.
UP NEXT: Staying in Southern California, Stan State will face off against Cal State San Marcos this Saturday, Feb. 11
that 1pm.
