TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State finally saw some action back on their home field after a road trip and bye week left the field untouched until the weekend double-header. Despite a scoreless opening game for the Warriors, a late push in game two ended in San Bernardino's favor.
SCORING SUMMARY: The 'Yotes opened up their scoring with a homer to left field and continued their run in the 2
nd and 3
rd innings of action. The Warriors couldn't muster up a comeback run to answer back and would see their deficit balloon to 4-0.
GAME ONE: Despite the scoring woes, Warrior fielders
Cherise Mori,
Karli DalBianco, and
Avery Fitch earned four putouts each from the field. The team went errorless for the entirety of the opener to keep their defensive efforts at a modest clip.
STRIKEZONE STRUGGLES: Kyndra Marzorini was the Warriors lead off pitcher to begin game one, starting off with three strikeouts in her three innings of work. She was later relieved by
Victoria Alarcon after difficult day in the pitching circle on her 16 batters faced.
GAME TWO: A late game momentum swing wasn't quite enough to bring the Warriors back in contention, following a 3-0 deficit through four innings of play. After scoring their only run of the day in the 6
th inning, the team battled to put batters on the bags to close the gap.
SCORING SUMMARY: Mikaela Ferreira got Stan State's offense back on their feet after an RBI triple to right center field made way for a
Korie Corral score in the 6
th inning. The Warriors fought hard to capitalize on their success, but couldn't put any balls out of reach of the San Bernardino defense.
UNCANNY ERRORS: A few small mishaps plagued the Warriors on a bulk of the runs they gave up through innings three and four.
Payton Applequist and Ferreira however, led the team in putouts and assists with five putouts forced by Applequist and three assists by Ferreira.
UP NEXT: The Warriors are right back in business tomorrow afternoon for a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 12pm at Warrior Softball Field.
