TURLOCK, Calif. – The Warriors upped their scoring from a day ago, clinching five runs total in their final two games against Cal State San Bernardino. Following rain and lightning delays both before first pitch and during the 2
nd inning of game one, the home squad proceeded to score four runs in the 3
rd inning alone.
GAME ONE: The opening game of the Sunday afternoon matchup came down to the wire, as the Warriors saw themselves up 4-2 in the first six innings of play. A 7
th inning scoring run from Cal State San Bernardino put them neck-and-neck with the Warriors, bouncing back with two runs to tie the game 4-4. However, Stan State had one last chance to put the 'Yotes to bed in the final inning of play and did exactly that.
SCORING SUMMARY: Four of the Warriors' five runs were secured in the 3
rd inning, coming from
Emily Bigley,
Katie Thornsberry,
Mikaela Ferreira, and
Avery Fitch. Stan State did an efficient job of getting batters on base and advanced their runners on a number of the 'Yotes' mistakes. The final dagger and walk-off run came from
Sarah Warden's single to left field that brought
Madison Flexser in for the Warriors' fifth score of the day.
EARNING ON ERRORS: Kaylee Heath and
Noelany Ramirez both advanced on base due to a throwing error and a hit by pitch to help their teammates score runs in the 3
rd inning. Solid base hits put the team in great position to make the most out of the 'Yotes mistakes.
IN THE "W" COLUMN: Kyndra Marzorini earned her first win in the pitching circle following a 7
th inning pitching change ahead of the game winning run. She managed to pull a strikeout out of her hat despite her short-lived time in the game.
GAME TWO: The Warriors cooled off a bit in the final game after their hot start in game two, unable to score runs on a solid fielding peformance from the 'Yotes.
SCORING SUMMARY: Cal State San Bernardino scored runs in three-straight innings after an RBI double at the top of the 1
st. The Warriors were out-hit 10-4 in the loss, having trouble picking their spots to string any runs together.
CLEAN FINISH: The Warriors defense finished with no errors, but were presented with plenty of tough balls to corral in the field for a majority of the game.
Karli DalBianco finished with 11 putouts for the day, while
Mikaela Ferreira assisted on five.
JUST JESSELL: Jessell Lewis took the mound for five innings before being relieved by Marzorini in her quick return to the mound. She managed to secure 10 groundouts for her squad and four forceouts in the process.
UP NEXT: Stan State won't have much time to hold their heads down, returning to play on Tuesday, Mar. 14
th for a non-conference doubleheader against Minnesota State University Moorhead at 4pm.
