CHICO, Calif. – The low scoring affair couldn't seem to bounce the Warriors' way in their first two road games against Chico State. The two teams met earlier this season, as the Wildcats took a 7-3 victory at home in their previous meeting. This time around, Stan State would go under by just a single run in both games on the front end of the series.
GAME ONE: The visiting Warriors had their fair share of frustrations getting on the bags in the series opener, securing just one
Avery Fitch double to left center field and leaving three runners on base through seven innings. Both teams had one error each, which strung together the Wildcats unearned run to take the 1-0 win.
SCORING SUMMARY: With Fitch's double being the team's lone hit in the contest at the top of the 2
nd inning, Chico grabbed a their first hit following a reaching error to 3
rd base. A stolen base, bunt, and RBI single helped the Wildcats to home plate as a result.
FEELING GREEN: The Warriors collected 18 total putouts from the field, led by
Payton Applequist and
Sheridan Gulley who collaborated for 12 in the game.
Mikaela Ferreira was responsible for four assists in the process at the shortstop position.
ALL-ALARCON: The sophomore pitcher took the reigns in all six innings for the Warriors. During her time in the circle,
Victoria Alarcon totaled six strikeouts, seven forceouts, and five groundouts in her 24 batters faced.
GAME TWO: A 1
st inning run got the Wildcats out in front 1-0, a score that never wavered through the remainder of the contest in another tough bout for the Warriors.
SCORING SUMMARY: Stan State was able to increase their batting numbers this time around, outhitting Chico State 4-3. The Warriors struggled to take their baserunners around the diamond however, striking out a total of nine times and leaving six runners on base.
THE LONG HAUL: Jessell Lewis took over the pitching role in game two, causing 14 groundouts, two forceouts, and striking out two batters. Lewis didn't walk a single batter through her six innings pitched.
SHARING THE WEALTH: 13 assists was the grand total for the Warriors throughout game two's fielding efforts. 15 putouts came to
Avery Fitch from the 1
st base slot while the remaining three were shared by
Karli DalBianco behind home plate and
Jalyssa Ledesma at 2
nd base.
