Warriors Break Even with the Wildcats on the Back End of the Series

CHICO, Calif. – Stan State gets the closing victory of the four-game series against Chico State on the road. After the 1-0 loss in their first meeting of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader, the Warriors take a 4-2 win to the house two RBIs by Sheridan Gulley in the 8th inning to put the Warriors up two.
 
GAME ONE: A scoreless opening five innings ended with a one run victory for the Wildcats in the 6th. Both teams finished the matchup with five hits on the day, Mikaela Ferreira including Mikaela Ferreira's double to center field in the top of the 6th. Katie Thornsberry and Kaylee Heath also put down sacrifice hits to earn hits of their own.
 
MARZORINI MILESTONES: Kyndra Marzorini took the Warriors through six innings in the pitching circle and hit a 250 career strikeouts mark racking up two for the day. In her 24 batters faced, Marzorini had 12 forceouts and four groundouts.
 
FAIR FIELDING: Payton Applequist and Lauryn Serda shared a combined seven putouts in the game, while Ferreira earned two of the team's three assists.
 
GAME TWO: The Warriors came alive down the stretch, upping their scoring in the final two innings to overthrow Chico State's lead and take the home team to extra innings. It was in the 8th inning that Sheridan Gulley helped her team to victory with RBIs to seal the game.
 
SCORING SUMMARY: Payton Applequist sparked the team's first run of the series finale with an RBI single for a Mikaela Ferreira score. Noelany Ramirez tied the game up later in the 7th inning with a single to 3rd base for a Sheridan Gulley run. Gulley followed up in extra innings with two RBIs of her own to help the Warriors to victory on a Madison Flexser and Kaylee Heath score.
 
HIT AFTER HIT: The Warriors went off for 10 hits in the game for the second time this season. This is their third-best hitting performance so far this year. Flexser led the way for the team, connecting on a team-high three.
 
SEASON HIGHS: On defense, the Warriors had a season-high 24 putouts as a collective, including a season-high 16 assists.
 
UP NEXT: Stan State returns to Turlock for another CCAA series, this time against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 24th and 25th.
