Cabero’s Sacrifice Fly In Night Cap Earns Warriors’ Split of Today’s Doubleheader with Cal State L.A.

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Mac Cabero's sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the ninth drove in Ryan Leonesio with the game-winning run to give the Stan State Warriors the 2-1 night cap victory.  Cal State Los Angeles won the opener 4-2.  The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow at noon with a nine-inning game at Warrior Baseball Field.

GAME ONE:  Cal State Los Angeles (10-11, 5-7 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one of today's doubleheader.  Fabian Moran's two-out run scoring triple gave the Golden Eagles the early 2-0 lead.  The game remained 2-1 guests until the Warrior half of the fifth inning.  Ryan Leonesio walked with one out.  He went to second on a single by Kyle Rachels and later scored on a Tyler Van Dyk single to cut the Stan State lead in half.

Anthony Angel Jr.'s one-out two-run home run increased Cal State Los Angeles' lead to 4-1.  Flavio Perez's lead-off single in the Warrior half of the eight cut the deficit to 4-2.
Stan State had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Rachels had a lead-off walk, but the Golden Eagles' Anthony Diaz retired the last three Stan State batters on a ground out and back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the Cal State Los Angeles 4-2 game one victory.

STAN STATE HITTERS: The Warriors had eight hits in the game.  Flavio Perez was two-for-five with a solo home run.  Tyler Van Dyk was two-for-five with a run scoring single and Kyle Rachels was two-for-four. 

WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Tony Jacob (1-1) suffered the loss in the start.  He pitched six innings, giving up six hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out six and walking two.  Caleb Bertoncini pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking one while giving up two hits.

GAME TWO:  Once again, Cal State Los Angeles took the early lead in the night cap.  Johnny Pacheco had a lead-off triple and scored on a ground out by Matthew Piotrowski in the top of the first inning. 

Stan State (15-14, 8-11 CCAA) tied the game at 1-1 in bottom of the third inning.  Jacob Baker had a lead-off double and Kyle Rachels walked to begin the inning. Robert Valdivia had a bunt single to load the bases.  With one out, Flavio Perez reached on a fielder's choice which Baker was out at home.  With two outs, Alex Solis was hit by a pitch which Rachels scored the tying run for the Warriors.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the Warrior half of the ninth inning. Ryan Leonesio had a lead-off single to left field.  He went to third when Perez reached on a sacrifice bunt and two-base Golden Eagle throwing error. With one out, Mac Cabero hit the second pitch he saw for a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Leonesio for the game-winning run.

STAN STATE HITTERS:  Jacob Baker went two-for-two with two stolen bases.  Three Warriors had one-hit a piece in Robert Valdivia, Ryan Leonesio and Flavio Perez.  Leonesio and Kyle Rachels each scored Stan State's runs while driving in the runs where Alex Solis and Mac Cabero.

WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Casey Carr recorded the no-decision in the start for the Warriors.  He pitched six innings, giving up four this and a run while striking out three and walking one.  Anthony Ramirez (2-1) picked up the win in relief.  He pitched three scoreless innings, giving up no hits, walking one and striking out one.

SERIES FINALE:  Stan State will close out the four-game series tomorrow afternoon at noon with a nine-inning game against Cal State Los Angeles.  The Warriors need the win to split the four-game series with the Golden Eagles.
