Warriors Exchange Wins Following Late-Game Runs vs. Cal State Monterey Bay

TURLOCK, Calif. – It took the full seven innings (and one extra in game one) for the final scores to be decided in the back half of Stan State's series against the Otters. The Warriors would take the first victory after a walk-off double from Madison Flexser to seal the deal. Game two would stay tied at 2-2 until a Monterey Bay single to left field wasn't answered back to conclude the series.

GAME ONE: The Warriors snatched game one from the Otters in a narrow 2-1 victory in extra innings. Their late-game hitting snapped the tie game, as they overthrew the Otters early 1-0 lead to secure the extra innings win.

SCORING SUMMARY: After getting out in front to a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning, Cal State Monterey Bay went silent though the rest of the game, leaving nothing but space and opportunity for the Warriors to put some runs on the board. Savhanna Angland picked her pitches on the box with the bases loaded and got walked to advance Mikaela Ferreira to Stan State's first run of the day. Madison Flexser would go on to break the 1-1 tie with an RBI double to right center field to make way for a Karli DalBianco game-winning run.

IN A PINCH: It was Angland's walk that made all the difference in the 6th inning for the Warriors to knot things up at 1-1. The pinch hitter was shuffled into the batting order and kept her team in reach with her advance to first base. Angland has played in just seven of the Warriors games this season, but had a good eye for the ball to even the score.

PITCHING PRAISES: The Warriors had solid pitching performances throughout games one and two to keep the Otters scoring to a minimum throughout the day. Kyndra Marzorini finished with five strikeouts, 12 forceouts, and six groundouts in her eight innings of action.

GAME TWO: After getting ahead to an early two-run lead to start the 1st inning, the Warriors cooled off down the stretch, giving the Otters opportunities to strike back and pull off the comeback. The fairly even statistical matchup was decided by a final 7th inning run to keep the Warriors at bay to finish the series.

SCORING SUMMARY: Karli DalBianco knocked a single to right field for an RBI and Katie Thornsberry score to get the Warriors offense trending in the right direction in the 1st inning. Kaylee Heath would follow up with an RBI of her own after a fielding error to the shortstop. Mikaela Ferreira would waltz in for the team's second run of the day. Later in the 3rd inning, the Otters would get their first run on an RBI single and later follow it up with a 4th inning home run to even the score at 2-2. The final deciding run came in the 7th inning, as Monterey Bay hit a single to left field to seal the deal on a 3-2 victory.

MONTEREY'S MISTAKES: Stan State managed to capitalize on most of the Otters' errors through the 1st inning, as a fielding error brought them their 2nd run of the game on a three-hit inning.

WITHIN ARM'S REACH: With one last opportunity to take the game to extra innings, the Warriors went through four batters in their lineup. Leaving with one hit and one left on base, the home squad couldn't manage put any balls out of reach as Monterey Bay's fielder's seemed to be in just the right spots to get three outs on the Warriors' final batting attempts.

UP NEXT: Next in line for the Warriors is the first of four days' worth of action at the 20th Annual Tournament of Champions here in Turlock. The team will match up against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Mar. 30th at 6:30pm for their first game of the tourney.
