SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – At long last, Stan State got the opportunity to get matches rolling again after inclement weather put the team on hiatus over the past few weeks. The Warriors headed on the road to face off against the Penguins of Dominican University for a Sunday dual against some familiar competition. Stan State would finish the afternoon with a 4-3 loss after all but two singles matches went an extra game.
DOUBLES: In doubles action, the Penguins pulled off the sweep in the #1 match with
Amber Huk and
Alyssa Tay (6-0), following things up with a 6-1 win over the duo of Jaelyn Hendryx and
Annabelle Mulick to secure the point. Despite the slow start, the Warriors managed to turn the tide with a handful of solo wins in singles play.
SINGLES: In the singles matchups,
Zuzanna Dziewiecka,
Alyssa Tay, and
Annabelle Mulick were the team's solo winners in a tight finish down the stretch. Dziewiecka took both set wins in her performance (7-6, 7-3), including the 7-3 tiebreaker in the opening set. Tay would slide past Astrid Craig convincingly in her match (6-3, 6-4) as well. Mulick was the team's last victor, winning two of her three sets (0-6, 6-1, 6-2). Hendryx fought hard in her #6 singles match, but could quite freeze out the Penguins in a 3-6, 5-7 final.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will hunt for revenge, this time against Fresno Pacific on their home court in a long awaited opening match on their own court Saturday, Mar. 11
