Warriors Earn Two Hump Day Victories vs. Holy Names

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Warriors got the week started with a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader against Holy Names before heading back on the road to San Francisco State later this week. The home team clutched two non-conference wins against their PacWest opponent 4-0 and 2-1 to win the quick mid-week series.

SCORING SUMMARY: Stan State's scoring was sparked off by a Hawks' wild pitch that opened the door wide open for Mikaela Ferreira to make her way to home plate for the team's first run of the day. The Warriors then followed up with a big RBI double from Ferreira in the 5th inning to increase the lead to two on a Cherise Mori run. More Stan State action happened later in the same inning, as Karli DalBianco bunted a single to advance Ferreira home for the team's third run of the day. The final run in the game one win came from a Sheridan Gulley walk with the bases loaded, leading to a Katie Thronsberry score.

A NEAR NO-HITTER: Victoria Alarcon took to the pitching circle in game one, allowing no hits until the 7th inning. She would finish the game with six strikeouts, increasing her pitching record to 4-6 on the year.

DO IT BY MYSELF: Despite ending the game with 21 total putouts as a team, the Warriors only racked up four assists in their "no runs allowed" opening game. Karli DalBianco and Madison Flexser led the way with 11 combined putouts in the win.

GAME TWO: The Warriors stood their ground until the 6th inning of the back half of their doubleheader, allowing their first and only run late in the game. The team still managed to hold on to their lead with three timely groundouts to seal the deal on the sweep.

SCORING SUMMARY: Scoring got started in the 2nd inning for the Warriors, who earned their first run on a Mori sacrifice fly that brought Avery Fitch in for the team's first run. Lauryn Serda put the team up 2-0 with a long ball hit to right field that was just enough to bring Thornsberry in for the score. The Hawks managed to make a late run in the 6thinning, stealing third base and advancing on a throwing error for their only run of the day.

HIT AFTER HIT: Three Warrior batters made it on base in their three trips to the plate in game two. Ferreira, Flexser, and Gulley each combined for six of the team's nine hits on the evening.

TEAM EFFORT: Warriors fielding in game two was nothing like the first, as the team created 15 assists for each other on 21 putouts to earn the 2-1 victory. Jessell Lewis and Ferreira each had four assists each while 1B Fitch led the way with 13 putouts.

UP NEXT: The Warriors will see San Francisco State this weekend for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday April 14thand 15th starting a 1pm Friday and 12pm on Saturday.
