Warriors Can’t Close Out Road Series vs. Gators

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Stan State couldn't find the answer to San Francisco State's scoring in their final two games of the series, finishing with 4-3 and 4-2 against the Gators.

GAME ONE: SF State got out to an early three-run start in the 1st inning, all of which were unearned following fielding errors from the Warriors. Despite their mishaps, Stan State regained their footing in the 3rd inning with a big two-run homer from Payton Applequist with a run scored by Madison Flexser. The visitors scored their final run in the 5th inning but one last score from the Gators in the bottom of the 5th put the game out of reach.

SCORING SUMMARY: Following the Gators 1st inning runs, Applequist took a pitch out of the park for her first home run of the season, helping the Warriors fight back to just a 2-3 deficit in the 3rd inning. Sheridan Gulley helped her team close the gap after a single to left field for an Emily Bigley run in the 5th, but it wasn't quite enough to keep the Gators off the gas after a late game error costs the Warriors another unearned run.

SHARING THE WEALTH: The Warriors ended the game with a whopping 13 assists on 18 putouts in the game. Mikaela Ferreira led the way at shortstop putting out four.

BAD TIMING: Timely errors cost the Warriors all of their allowed runs through the game, finishing with three errors to the Gators' zero.

GAME TWO: SF State got out to a fast four-run start to begin their closing game of the series in the first two innings of play. Stan State made their way back on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning scoring their two runs on two RBI singles.

SCORING SUMMARY: Following the Gators four-run lead, Mikaela Ferreira knocked a single to center field to make way for an unearned run on a throwing error for Korie Corral. The Warriors' second run came from Sheridan Gulley, who singled to right center on an RBI to Ferreira. The team's scoring went silent after their two-run jump, finishing the game down two to close out the series.

ROUGH PITCHING: The Warriors walked seven batters leaving eight Gator runners on base. Pitching two strikeouts, Kyndra Marzorini had eight foreouts and five groundouts.

UP NEXT: Stan State returns to Turlock for their last stretch of home games against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Saturday, April 21st and 22nd starting at 1pm and 11am.
