TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State won its fourth weekend series of the season and third conference series as the Warriors defeated San Francisco State 4-2 this afternoon at Warrior Stadium.
Maxwell Pappas (3-3) picked up the win, pitching six scoreless innings of two-hit ball while walking four and striking out four. The Warriors had four two-out runs batted in to key the series finale victory.
Stan State took the 1-0 lead in its half of the second inning.
Alex Solis had a lead-off single, went to second when
Kyle Rachels walked. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Ryan Leonesio drew a bases loaded walk which scored Rachels with the game's first run. The Warriors doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs,
Flavio Perez reached base when he was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Solis single to right center to double the hosts' lead to 2-0.
In the Warrior sixth, Leonesio was hit by a pitch with two outs. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Robert Valdivia to increase Stan State's lead to 3-0.
San Francisco State (22-15, 15-14 CCAA) cut the Warrior lead to 3-2 with a two-run eighth inning capped by a successful double steal attempt by Sammy Gonzalez and Nick Upstill with Upstill stealing home. Warrior reliever,
Noah Chelberg, came in to strike out the final Gator batter of the inning to end the SF State scoring threat.
Stan State (21-16, 14-13 CCAA) added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Leonesio and Valdivia had back-to-back one-out singles. With two outs, Leonesio scored on a Perez single to left field to increase the Warrior lead to 4-2.
The Gators had a chance to tie the game in the top of the ninth. With one out, Derek Laferierre and Matt Sugden were each hit by pitch. Stan State reliever,
Anthony Ramirez, induced the next two Gators to strike out and to ground out to Valdivia at short as the Warriors took the series finale 4-2 victory.
STAN STATE BATTERS: The Warriors had eleven hits on the day.
Flavio Perez went two-for-four with a run batted in and a run scored.
Robert Valdivia and
Alex Solis each were two-for-five with a run batted in and
Kyle Rachels was two-for-three with a run scored.
Ryan Leonesio scored two runs and was one-for-two with a run batted in for the victors.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Maxwell Pappas (3-3) picked up the win in the start, his first in three weeks. Pappas pitched six scoreless innings of two-hit ball while walking four and striking out four.
Noah Chelberg pitched 0.2 scoreless innings while striking out one.
Anthony Ramirez pitched 0.2 scoreless innings, striking out one en route to his seventh save of the season.

Ryan Leonesio is at 11. With their multiple-hit games today,

MOVED INTO FOURTH PLACE: With taking three out of four from SF State this weekend, the Warriors have moved into fourth place in the CCAA regular season standings. They are just one game out of third place (Cal Poly Pomona). The top six teams heading into this week in the CCAA are: 1.) Cal State Monterey Bay 22-6 (.786) 2.) Cal State San Bernardino 20-10 (.667), 3.) Cal Poly Pomona 15-12 (.556), 4.) Stan State 14-13(.519), 5.) SF State 15-14 (.517) and 6.) Cal State Dominguez Hills 13-14 (.464). Cal State East Bay is in seventh place at 12-14 (.462) followed by Chico State in eighth place at 9-12 (.429), Sonoma State in ninth at 8-15 (.348), Cal State Los Angeles in tenth at 9-17 (.346) and Cal State San Marcos at eleventh at 7-16 (.304). The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth in the 2023 CCAA Baseball Championships, May 10-13, at the Otters Sports Complex on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif. The winner of the CCAA's will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
