LOLETA, Calif.--- Stan State ended this weekend's series at Cal Poly Humboldt the same way the Warriors began it with a victory. This afternoon, the Warriors took the series finale 7-4 after dropping today's opener 6-5.
Jessell Lewis picked up the win in the night cap while Stan State's offense scored seven runs on 13 hits.
Lauryn Serda and
Madison Flexser went a combined six-for-six, driving in four runs and scoring one run to lead the way for the Warriors.
GAME ONE: For the second time in this series, Stan State took an early lead in its first at bat. Micaela Ferreira had a lead-off single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Katie Thornsberry. She went to third when
Karli DalBianco reached on a Lumberjack error. Ferreira scored as
Sheridan Gulley reached on another Humboldt error. The Warriors made it 2-0 guests on a two-out single by
Kaylee Heath.
Humboldt cut the Warrior lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first. The score remained 2-1 Stan State until the top of the third inning.
Payton Applequist began the inning by being hit by a pitch. She went to second as Heath was also hit by a pitch. Still with no outs,
Lauryn Serda had a single to load the bases. Applequist scored on a wild pitch.
Noelany Ramirez hit a two-out two-run single to increase the Warriors' lead to 5-1.
The Lumberjacks cut the Warrior lead to 5-4 with a three run fourth inning capped by a two-out two-run single by Shelby Shanks. Stan State held on to the 5-4 lead until the Lumberjack half of the seventh inning. With bases loaded and two outs, Vanessa Saltos hit a two-out two-run single to score Shanks and Anna Brondos with the tying and game-winning run for the Humboldt 6-5 victory.
STAN STATE HITTERS: The Warriors had eight hits in game one led by
Mikaela Ferreira's two-for-four game with a one run scored.
Noelany Ramirez was one-for-two with two runs batted in for the Warriors. Five other Warriors had a hit apiece in
Katie Thornsberry,
Karli DalBianco,
Kaylee Heath,
Lauryn Serda, and
Madison Flexser.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Kyndra Marzorini (4-5) suffered the loss for Stan State. She pitched 6.2 innings, giving up five hits and six runs while striking out one and walking five.
GAME TWO: The Warriors took the early lead again for the third time this series.
Mikaela Ferreira had a lead-off double. She went to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Katie Thornsberry. With two outs,
Kaylee Heath walked to place runners on the corners.
Payton Applequist drove home Ferreira with a two-out single up the middle. The Warriors doubled their lead on another two-out run scoring single, this time by
Lauryn Serda.
Cal Poly Humboldt (17-20, 5-13 CCAA) cut the Warrior lead in half on a run scoring single by Katelyn Gifford. The Jacks tied the game, 2-2, in their half of the second on a one-out single by Micaela Harris.
Stan State (10-21, 6-17 CCAA) took the lead for good with a three-run third inning.
Karli DalBianco had a lead-off double and then Heath walked to place runners at first and second. Each runner advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Applequist.
Madison Flexser was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
Korie Corral pinch ran for Heath at second. Serda hit a run scoring single to drive in DalBianco with the Warriors' third run of the game. Corral scored on a
Sarah Warden sacrifice fly. The Warriors increased their lead to 5-2 on a single by
Cherise Mori.
DalBianco had a one-out double in the fourth which was a followed by a Heath walk. For the second this game, Applequist advanced both Warriors up a base on a ground out. Flexser drove home DalBianco with a two-out single. Still with two outs, Serda drove home Heath with an infield single to increase the Warriors' lead to 7-2.
The Lumberjacks cut the Warrior lead to 7-4 with a two-run single by Gifford in their half of the fourth, but the closest that Humboldt would get as the guests took the 7-4 series finale victory.
STAN STATE HITTERS: The Warriors had 13 hits to go with their seven runs in the night cap.
Lauryn Serda went three-for-three with three runs batted in while
Madison Flexser was three-for-three with a run batted in and a run scored.
Karli DalBianco was two-for-four with two runs scored and Mikaela Ferreria was two-for-five with a run scored.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Jessell Lewis (3-9) recorded the complete game victory. She gave up ten hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out one and walking three.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns home this Wednesday, April 14 for a 2pm starting non-conference doubleheader with Holy Names University. This will be the Warriors' Title IX 50
th Anniversary Celebration Games. During the games, the Warriors will make announcements regarding Title IX. After Wednesday's doubleheader, Stan State will travel to San Francisco for a doubleheader with San Francisco State, April 14-15. The Warriors will return home April 21-22 to host No. 24 Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series. On Saturday, April 22, Stan State will recognize its seniors.
