TURLOCK, Calif.--- After finishing the 2022 tying for the most wins in Stan State volleyball history and with the highest winning percentage, the Warriors will look to continue their winning ways in 2023. The Stan State, Warriors, under the guidance of second-year head coach
Lauren Flowers, will begin their regular season hosting the five-team Stan State Volleyball Tournament over Labor Day weekend.
The Warriors finished their 2022 campaign 19-10 including 10-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Their 19 victories tied for the most in program history with the 2002 season. Their .655 winning percentage is the highest in school history.
"It will be fun to see our returners step up this season as they'll have a bigger target on their backs compared to last year," added Flowers. "We're going to have to earn every win and I know they're excited for that challenge. Our incoming players are all highly competitive and I know they'll thrive in our tougher schedule this year."
Returning libero
Gabby Rawson was named the CCAA Libero of the Year. The First Team All-CCAA honoree was a two-time CCAA Defensive Player of the Week. Returning middle blocker
Alex Byrd was an All-CCAA Honorable Mention honoree and returns for her junior season.
Autumn Kirby, who was named to the CCAA Championship All-Tournament Team, also returns for her junior season.
"I'm really excited for this fall," said Flowers. "I think we built a competitive preseason schedule that will prepare us for another tough CCAA conference season. "We have some great teams coming to play us at home that I know volleyball fans will enjoy watching in Fitzpatrick Arena."
Coach Flowers and her 2023 Warriors will host the five-team Stan State Tournament over Labor Day Weekend. Stan State will face Western Oregon (August 31 at 5:30pm), Academy of Art (September 1 at 11:30am), Western New Mexico (September 1 at 7pm), and Fresno Pacific (September 2 at 7pm). Chico State will be the fifth team in the Stan State Tournament.
After hosting the Stan State Tournament, the Warriors will travel to the Last Frontier and participate in the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. They will begin the Classic facing Lander University on September 7 at 4pm (AT). The Warriors will continue their play in the Classic with an important West Region match-up against Biola (September 8 at 11am AT). They will finish their play in the Classic taking on the two Alaska schools and West Region opponents in Alaska Anchorage (September 9 at 10am AT) and Alaska Fairbanks (September 9 at 7:30pm AT).
Stan State will return to the State of California to begin CCAA play on the road in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Warriors will face Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson on September 15 at 5pm and Cal State Los Angeles in Los Angeles on September 16 at 2pm. Stan State will return home to the Fitzpatrick Arena the weekend of September 22 and 23. The Warriors will host Cal Poly Humboldt on September 22 at 5pm and Sonoma State on September 23 at 2pm.
The following weekend the Warriors will return to Southern California for a mini-two match road trip. They will be in Pomona for a 3pm starting match on September 29 against Cal Poly Pomona. Stan State will travel to San Marcos for a 3pm match with Cal State San Marcos on September 30.
Stan State will continue its road trip when the Warriors face Cal State East Bay (5pm on October 6 in Hayward) and Cal State Monterey Bay (3pm on October 7 in Seaside). The Warriors will return home to Fitzpatrick Arena to host Chaminade in an afternoon match at 1pm on October 9. Chico State will be Stan State's next opponent in a home-away match-up. The two teams will face each other in Turlock on October 11 at 5pm. They will travel to Chico on October 13 for another 5pm starting match-up.
Stan State will return home for the next weekends. The Warriors will entertain San Francisco State (October 20 at 5pm) and Cal State San Bernardino (October 21 at 5pm) to begin their home stand. Stan State will continue its home stand hosting Cal State San Marcos (October 27 at 5pm) and Cal Poly Pomona (October 28 at 2pm).
The Warriors will travel to Northern California for their next two matches. They will be in Rohnert Park on November 2 for a 5pm starting match-up with Sonoma State. Two days later, Stan State will travel to Arcata for a 5pm match with Cal Poly Humboldt.
Stan State will end its regular season at home with two matches on November 10 and 11. The Warriors will entertain Cal State Los Angeles on the tenth at 5pm. Their Senior Day will be November 11 at 2pm against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Warriors will be looking to receive a bid to the CCAA Volleyball Championships for the second season in a row. This year's six-team championship will run from November 16-18 on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif. The winner of the CCAA's will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships. The NCAA Division II West Regional is set for November 30-December 2 at the site of one of the higher seeds in the eight-team tournament. The winner of the West Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships, which is scheduled for December 7-9 in Moon Township, Penn.
