Stan State Begins CCAA Play on the Road in Southern California

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State's volleyball team will begin their play in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season this weekend (September 15-16) in the Los Angeles metropolitan area with a pair of matches against Cal State Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and No. 21 Cal State Los Angeles.  The Warriors will face CSUDH in Carson on Friday, September 15 at 3pm.  They will travel to Los Angeles for a 2pm match-up with reigning NCAA Division II West Region Champion, Cal State Los Angeles.  
 
RECAP OF ALASKA:  Stan State went 2-2 in its four matches in the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.  The Warriors started the classic with a four-set win over Lander (SC).  The Bearcats have received bids to the NCAA Division II Tournament the last two seasons. Stan State lost in three sets in its next match against Biola.  The Warriors rebounded with a four-set win over then No. 21 Alaska Anchorage. Stan State finished the weekend with a four-set loss to Alaska.  Statistical leaders for the Warriors are Ellison Weaver (39 kills), Isabella Saucedo (.248 hitting percentage), Haley Burdo (89 assists, six service aces), Gabby Rawson (90 digs), and Alex Byrd (22 total blocks).  Rawson was named to the All-Tournament Team.  
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: After starting the season 3-1 in their own tournament over Labor Day weekend, the Warriors went 2-2 in Alaska and are now 5-3. Mariah Iosau leads the team with her 67 kills and Autumn Kirby has a team leading .298 hitting percentage.  Haley Burdo has 153 assists to go with Eyriana Eatmon's 105.  Burdo leads the team with her eleven service aces while Eatmon and Kirby each have nine.  Gabby Rawson has a team leading 170 digs to go with Alex Byrd's 38 total blocks.  Kirby has 28 blocks and Emily Vander Weide has 21.
 
HEAD COACH LAUREN FLOWERS:  In her first season in 2022 at the helm of the Warrior volleyball team became Stan State's all-time winningest team with its .655 winning percentage. The Warriors finished with a 19-10 overall record with the 19 wins tying for the most in school history.  They finished in sixth place and qualified for the CCAA Volleyball Championships.  In her two seasons, Flowers is 24-13. With the Warriors' win over then No. 21 Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Flowers has guided Stan State so three victories over top 25 teams.  In 2022, the Warriors defeated then No. 25 Winona State (3-0 in Carson) and No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino (3-2 in Turlock).
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Haley Burdo is now eighth on the Warriors' career list in assists with 1295.  Alex Byrd is eighth in career solo blocks with 38.  Gabby Rawson is 46 digs from moving into the all-time digs list.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  With her two double-doubles last weekend, Haley Burdo has 26 for her career. Mariah Iosua and Ellison Weaver each recorded a double-double last week in Alaska.  Weaver has five and Iosua has two.  


HONORS:  Emily Vander Weide was named to the seven-team Stanislaus State Labor Day Volleyball Tournament. For the third time in her career, Gabby Rawson was named the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 28-September 3. Rawson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic in Alaska.
 
AMONGST THE CONFERENCE LEADERS:  Four Warriors are amongst the CCAA leaders in seven statistical categories.  Alex Byrd is second in blocks/set (1.31), second in blocks (38), and eighth in hitting percentage (.290). Autumn Kirby is sixth in hitting percentage (.298), seventh in blocks (28), and ninth in blocks/set (0.97).  Haley Burdo is seventh in assists (153) and ninth in assists/set (5.28). Gabby Rawson leads the conference with her 170 digs and 6.07 digs/set average.  
 
UPDATE ON THE TOROS:  Cal State Dominguez Hills is 5-2 after going 3-0 at the Seawolves/Penguins Classic in Northern California with wins over Westmont (3-2), Academy of Art (3-0), and Dominican (3-0).  Ava Hurry leads the Toros with her 80 kills and .178 hitting percentage.  Bailey Fuches has a team leading 155 assists and 15 service aces.  Teagan Irish leads the team with her 40 blocks to go with Nina Robles has a team high 110 digs.  
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  The all-time series is tied at 26-26 with the Warriors leading the last six matches in a row.  Stan State defeated the Toros 3-1 in Carson and 3-0 in Turlock in 2022.  
 
UPDATE ON THE NO. 21 GOLDEN EAGLES: Cal State Los Angeles enter its match on Friday with Chico State with a 2-6 record after going 1-3 at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colo.  CSULA defeated West Florida (3-2), but lost to Central Missouri (2-3), Regis (3-0), and Lewis (3-2).  Emily Elliott leads the team with 123 kills to go with her 13 service aces and Eliza Cannon has a team high 143 assists.  Iana Henke has recorded a team leading 14 services while recording 82 digs.  Jameen Sanders leads the team with her 84 digs while Haley Roundtree has a team high 35 total blocks.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal State Los Angeles leads the all-time series with the Warriors 23-3 and has won the last six matches in a row.  The Golden Eagles won the series last year 3-1 in Los Angeles and 3-0 in Turlock.
