CARSON, Calif.--- In both team's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener, the visiting Stan State Warriors lost in four sets (14-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25) to the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (6-2, 1-0 CCAA) this afternoon at the Torodome in Carson, Calif.
Eyriana Eatmon recorded her 12
th double-double of her career and first of the season in leading the Warriors in the loss.
FIRST SET: The hosts took a 10-5 lead to begin the match in the first set on back-to-back Nina Robles' service aces. Three consecutive kills by Ava Hurry increased the Toros' lead to 19-9. A combined block by
Irene London and
Mariah Iosua cut the Warrior deficit to 19-11. CSUDH finished out the set recording six of the final nine points to take the set 25-14.
SECOND SET: Stan State (5-4, 0-1 CCAA) took a 17-12 lead on an
Emily Meyer kill off a
Haley Burdo assist. An Ava Hurry kill cut the Warrior lead to 18-17, but an
Eyriana Eatmon ace gave Stan State a 20-18 lead. Back-to-back kills by Kilyn Hayes and Kayly Pau tied the match at 22-22. The Warriors evened the match at 1-1 as they recorded three of the final four points capped by a
Mariah Iosua kill off a Burdo set to take the set 25-23.
THIRD SET: A Kayly Pau kill gave the Toros a 15-9 lead in the third set. The Warriors came right back and cut the deficit to 16-13 on a
Samaya Royal kill. A combined block by Isabella Sauceduo and
Alex Byrd tied the match at 20-20. An
Ellison Weaver kill off an assist from
Eyriana Eatmon gave the Warriors a 21-20 lead. The match was tied at 22-22 on another kill by Weaver this time off an assist from
Gabby Rawson. The Toros finished the set off scoring the final three points capped by a Bailey Fuches kill to take the set 25-22 and a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: Cal State Dominguez Hills came out on fire in the fourth set and took a 17-5 lead. A kill by
Mariah Iosua cut the Toro lead to 19-13, but a combined block by Kayly Pau and Teagan Irish gave the hosts a 23-13 lead. The Toros took the fourth and final set recording two of the final five points 25-16 and the match 3-1.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Eyriana Eatmon recorded her first double-double of the season and twelfth of her career this afternoon. She had 15 digs to go with her 12 assists. Three other Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season in
Haley Burdo (two),
Mariah Iosua (one), and
Ellison Weaver (one).
WARRIOR LEADERS: Mariah Iosua had 10 kills to the lead the Warriors. Two-time reigning CCAA Defensive Player of the Week,
Gabby Rawson, had a match high 23 digs followed by
Eyriana Eatmon with 15. Iosua and Eatmon each had two service aces.
Autumn Kirby,
Isabella Saucedo, and Iosua each had three total blocks.
Haley Burdo had a team high 16 assists followed by
Eyriana Eatmon with 12.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will end their weekend in Southern California with a 2pm match at No. 21 Cal State Los Angeles tomorrow, September 16
th in Los Angeles. The Golden Eagles defeated Chico State in three sets this evening, 25-10, 25-20, 25-11. They will return home a week from tonight at 5pm on September 22
nd where they will faces Cal Poly Humboldt on Campers Night.
