TURLOCK, Calif.--- Tyler Tipton scored twice including the game-winner with fifteen minutes left in the match to key Stan State's 3-2 victory in the Warriors' home opener over the visiting Hawai'i Pacific Sharks at Warrior Stadium.
Edgar Castaneda scored the other Stan State goal with
Leonardo Muniz-Gallegos and
Chase Koptieff recording assists.
FIRST HALF: Hawai'i Pacific (1-4-1) looked like the Sharks were going to take the lead with ten minutes left in the half when
Robby Rosas made one of his five saves on the night stopping Leonardo Weingartner's shot on goal attempt. Seven minutes later, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead on
Tyler Tipton's first of two goals off a long ball from
Leonardo Muniz-Gallegos. The Sharks had a chance to tie the match late in the half, but Weingartner's went high over the goal to send the match into the half with Stan State leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Just five minutes into the second half, the Sharks tied the match at 1-1 when Leonardo Weingartner connected on a penalty kick. The Warriors had a chance to retake the lead, when Finn Hoffman's shot on goal was stopped by the Sharks' Connor Margo.
Robby Rosas made two huge saves in the 62
nd stopping Jude Boyd and Luca Argost's shot on goal attempts. Stan State (2-3) retook the twenty seconds later when
Edgar Castaneda connected on a cross from
Chase Koptieff. The hosts didn't have the lead for long as the Sharks tied the match at 2-2 in the 64
th minute on a goal by Weingartner off a ball from Valentin Kurz. The hosts retook the lead for good, 3-2, with fifteen minutes left in regulation as
Tyler Tipton connected on his second goal of the match and fourth on the season a penalty kick. Kurz had a chance to tie the match again in the 84
th, but his shot sailed high over the goal. Tipton had a chance for his third goal, but Margo recorded his third save as the match ended in a Stan State 3-2 victory.
RETURNING HOME: Stan State finally returned home after being on the road for its first six matches of the season including two in pre-season. This was Stan State Head Coach
John Powell's first victory on the sidelines at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors are now 2-3 this season.

Edgar Castaneda are one-two on the team in goals scored and points this season. Tipton has a team leading four goals scored and leads the team with his eight points. Castaneda is next with three goals and one assist for seven points. Both have recorded the Warriors' game-winning goals. Five Stan State players have an assist each in Castaneda,

UP NEXT: Stan State will continue its season long five-match home stand on Tuesday, September 19 at 7pm when the Warriors host Academy of Art. They will face No. 8 Chico State on Saturday, September 23 at 4;30pm in a rare non-conference match. Stan State will begin CCAA play on Friday, September 29 on Student Affairs Night hosting Cal State San Marcos at 4:30pm.
